Such a basic question about adjoining and textures

I'm just starting out and have created some rooms, extended some doorways, cleaved the surfaces and adjoined all the correct bits (as shown how to in Brian's tutorial). But in the 3D preview, if I look one way through a doorway, it's fine, but when I look the otherway through the doorway, I can only see texture. How do I fix this.

Also, while I'm here, a tutorial says that in the 3d preview, you can dbl-click on a surface and the texture browser will appear and you can change the texture. Sure the browser appears, but it only changes the surface that's selected in the map window (and yes, the 3d preview is the active window). What's going on? (I'm using latest version of JED)

Cheers!

for the first problem... select the surface, unadjoin it (alt-a) and adjoin it again (a).. this should do the trick. Be sure to often run the consistency checker (f10). When you undo a cleave, 9/10 chance you'll get a bad adjoin. Run the C.Checker, select the adjoin error, press GOTO, then unajoin, then adjoin again.... all there is to it [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]
If THAT doen't work, select the seeable surface and check if its GEO is set to 3 or 4, if it is, set it to "not drawn" by dbl-click on the GEO tab.

As for the 2nd.. dbl-clicking on a surface in 3d preview to select its MAT is not quite perfect IMO. it often gives me errors, like selecting the wrong surface or something. just click it ONCE, then dbl-click on the MATERIAL tab to select your texture.... shouldn't have any problems that way.

if you already adjoined two surfaces, and one side shows up textured, click on the textured side and make sure that it's passable and set the geo to 0. to check if it's passable, look at the flags on it. you shouldn't have to unadjoin then readjoin. it's probably just set to render the texture. that happens a lot.
