Do you have the fully lit option turned on? Go into the 3D preview, select options and uncheck "Fully Lit"
I hope it helps.

Also, make sure you calculate the lighting, or it won't show up (press Ctrl + L after you make any lighting changes)
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Hey, another newcomer. Welcome.

Lighting can definately be hard to get a handle on. It just takes practice. Right now I think your problem is probably what the others have mentioned. Also, colored lighting only works in Mysteries of the Sith, so if you are trying to use colored lighting in a Jedi Knight level it won't work.

Check the range on your light(s), also. If the little "light-range circle" doesn't touch any vertexes, your level will still be at full bright.

No Jipe, when he uses the calculate lighting command it should go all dark if there aren't any lights in range of any vertices.

Oh yeah? Well get this! I have a room with solid color surfaces and no matter what I do it is fully lit, yet the other parts of the level are beautiful! What's with that!? Not only that, but the lights in the room have big gaps in between each one! I even tried deltin them!

make sure that the secter lighting isn't really bright or lit at all. ie, click on the secter that is fully lit and hit enter. a dialog should pop-up and it is on that.
