Planets

Hey I read something about a good way to make planets look real (I think it was the review of Necropolis). I would like to know how to do it if it is possible. Also I am looking for a program thats called PTJedi or something, I know its the newer version of TraJedi...

using a skybox with a great 256 X 256 mat probably works best if you're talking about viewing a planet from a distance

Why? Few things in life are really deserved. Especially if you are asking others for help.

I haven't played Necropolis so I don't know just what you are talking about. If it's part of a skybox (like adrenal_medulla was talking about) it's a part of the mat.

Pupet Jedi and TraJedi are key making programs. All they do is make things move.

Hi.

If you only want a simple planet on an otherwise simple star-sky, it will probably be the easiest way to use a sprite for the planet. Skyboxes are pretty hard to implement and have certain limitations because JK doesn't normally use them.
Check the tutorial section for the "Advanced Lighting" tutorial. You can probably easily modify the corona.cog in the accompanying ZIP-File to make the sprite for the planet always face you.

You could also have a look how Tee (?) did it in Necropolis.

Planet mats can be found at NASA.gov or practically everywhere on the web.

Cheers,
Goofz

Don't use the corona COG!! That is for flat 3dos, not sprites! From certain angles it's possible to still see it as flat. Use the easy_sprites.cog file here at massassi. Look at nasa.gov like goofz said. If you want a different one besides any of ours, look somewhere else on the net. If you want, you can open one in Photoshop or PSP and change the color, size, etc. If you want me to do it, just gimma a ring on the zone [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]
