16 bit mats

can anyone tell me the proper way to create 16 bit mats with Mat16?

There's not much to it. Open a bmp file in Mat16 and then use "save as" to save it as a 16 bit mat.

also, do you need to use a colormap?

I'm not sure, but I don't think there has to be a cmp involved with the making of the mat.

That's the entire attraction of 16-bit mats. They supercede the need for cmp's. Each of JK's levels has a cmp of only 256 colors which can be used per level. A 16-bit mat allows for something like 32,000 colors.

I thought 16 bit was 64,000 colors.

32,000. 64,000. What's the difference? Either way, it beats the crap out of 256. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]
