Music from JK CD

I'm making a SP level and I would like to use the Intro muisic from the JK intro(you know, the SW theme). I plan to record the music as it is playing then turn down the quality for file size reasons. Well, I just wasn't sure if this violated the licence agreement. Does anyone have any experience with this?

You can just use something like 00_soundtrack.cog to play the music on the JK CD.

Yeah, but the music I need is stored in an SMK file and is not on the CD so to speak. I need to "rip" it from the SMK and make it a wav. I just wanted to know if LEC allowed this or not. I've seen it done in other levels on massassi.

Is it legal? No.

Is LEC going tu sue the living hell out of you? No.

According to every legal documentation provided in the manuals, its not legal to use songs, or portions of songs, for your own use.

Sorry :/

you might just wanna use 00_soundtrack.cog and play another song from the CD as MikeC suggested.

Far too many people have used it at this point. Imperial March too. Either the precedent stands, or a lot of levels are going to need to be pulled off the server.

The official stance at TACC is that stuff from the SW soundtracks is fair game. Wavs from the movies, too. But that's TACC, and not Massassi. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Go ahead and extract a copy of it from someone's gob. And then ask their permission to use it.

Well my reasoning is:

Since the song IS on the JK CD (in the opening cutscene) It would seem logical that it does not go against the agreement assuming I take the sample right fromthe JK CD.

isn't it allowed to use jk-stuff in a mots level, because the player must own jk as well to play mots ? so if you are even allowed to use stuff from a different game, why should you not be allowed to use suff from the same cd. it's the same like taking a skin from the cd and retexture it.

Yes, it seems like it should be ok to me. If the music is coming off of the JK cd, which we all must have to play the game, then it's not like you're stealing copyrighted material and giving it away, as we all own the material already anyway. I could be wrong, though.

Uhhhh..... doesn't the MotS intro play the same music? You know, the Star Wars Theme song?

I also used that song for my SP levels before. You can go ahead and just rip the song from my Leeze's Destiny or my Jake McHenry levels if you want. You have my permission to do that.
