16 bit Mats - How!!!-

Okay, I'm using Photoshop to make the image - export it as a 24 bit and 8 bit .bmp, open Mat16, load one and save as 16 bit mat, load second one and save as 16 bit mat, re-open in Mat16 and the colors are all screwed - up!What am i doing wrong!!

My colors are fine .... but my image isnt right .... it makes strange lines .... instead of smoothing it out.
