testing and playing levels
2001-06-14, 11:28 PM #1
About half the levels I create are scratched because whenever I go to test or play them I cannot load the level. One of two things usually happens. 1) An error box pops up saying there was an error in loading the level. 2) The level loads then JK totally shuts down before the level appears on the screen. The second tends to happen when I use COGs. I have no clue what I am doing wrong. Somebody please help me.

The first error is with the EPISODE.JK file. Don't make all of your levels in the same project directory unless you're making a level pack because they will all use the same Episode.JK file and that can cause a load of problems.

The second problem is most likely cogs used the wrong way or new 3dos that have been badly 'templated' to use in JK..

No level is lost until it has been deleted and the trashcan emptied. There's always a way to debug it.. Run it without any 3dos, if that doesn't solve the problem, run it without any cogs.. try repositionning your spawnpoints somewhere else, make sure its in only one sector.. stuff like that. If you have non-planar surfaces the level won't load either... Run the Consistency Checker (f10) often...

Welcome to the Massassi Forums.

My signature here used to be "For the love of God, use the consistency checker!" That's what you need to do.

Hit F10 in Jed to bring up the consistency checker. Fix any problems it lists.

For the error message you get, there could be several problems. Click on the link in my signature. It will take you to my web page. Go to the editing help/troubleshooting section. I discuss the problem and its possible causes at length.
