Why is everyone so reluctant to join my TC?
2001-06-12, 1:34 PM #1
I may sound like a desperate jerk, but it's getting me down! Every TC I start has good ideas, but absolutely NO ONE wants to join them because I came up with the idea, and that's why they don't want to join! If someone ELSE came up with the idea, I bet everyone would be happy to join!
I asked in may last post called "How can I put CD music in a level?" I also asked if anyone would like to join. Rhettman right off said "No." And I had a really good idea!
I guess I'm lucky to have ONE person join this time. If I pull this off with other people's help, it could be better than ss3!
Why is it the WWII TC has been going on for a shorter time than this TC, yet they have more people in thier team!
I repeat, I may sound like a desperate jerk, (so please don't reply with a really mean reply) but I am REALLY getting ticked off! IF you do want to join, I only need like one person for each category, click the mail button above my post.

DO NOT WANT.

Having a little persecution complex are we now? What makes you think its because you came up with the idea?

I can pretty much guess why Rhettman told you know since it's probably the same reason I say no to all the TC's and projects I get asked to join. I don't have enough time to finish the levels I have planned let alone join another project.

It's not that your tc is a bad idea, it's just that tcs usually have a snowballs chance in hell of ever getting done. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif] That's why I don't want to join one unless it's well established with everything planned out.

Well Zell (heehee that rhymes), I almost have the logo done. I just need the screenshot to put on it. I suggest you get a site for the TC and then get some message boards preferably at Gamers.com or some other message board creator. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Boba Rhett: I almost beg to differ. Even if I had had an interest in joining your TC, I would be completely turned off of it simply because there is no information about it. Not planning a multi-member TC in advance almost assuredly makes it a bad idea. "OOH! IT will have a saw gun! and a BFG!" says nothing regarding what you plan to do with the entire mod (Yes, I'm quite aware that's not an exact quote.).

I'm not saying that the "World War II TC" is any better, bt at least people can assume what it'll be like: a fairly standard conversion with real-world weapons. Not that that matters at all; as far as I can tell, both the projects I've mentioned are so understaffed and underplanned as to any number of people currently working on them are negligible. Either get some solid plans regarding both, with some orignal ideas, si tu plait, and some decent programming (where the true merits of TCs lie; not the graphics: the programming) might come as a result of it.

If I were you, I'd make an attempt to do this on my own, and ask other people for help on minor things as you need them. Good luck, regardless of what you do.

Dude, don't take it personally. A new TC pops up every month or so, and only a very small handfull have gotten even close to release.

Not to mention people have wanted to do TCs for every book, movie, and anime show ever released. There was once a Pokemon TC. Suffice it to say, it only had one member. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

There's also been the associated problem of people concieving of a TC, and needing 'expert' coggers, 'expert' sprite makers, and 'expert' level makers to do everything for them, because they... don't know how... to edit...

I'm not implying anything like that, but it happens more than we would like it to. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

Don't take it personally. I have no doubt that you could finish it given enough time, but unless you have something to attract people to download it\work on it (if that's what you seek), you won't get the interest needed for it to be sucessful, not to mention you'll probably get tired of working on "just another gun-ish TC." I'm not about to give up all hope, but you need some sort of special attraction to catch me. I wish you luck in that regard.

Rhettman: Shoot me now.

I don't wanna sound like I'm dissing your project and all BUT... look at that:

I think it lacks a WEEEE bit of information as to what will the TC be like. It's like saying "Hey guys let's make a TC, let's call it Jedi Pudding Overdose and ask people to join, when we have enough people we can figure out what its gonna look like!!! anyone in?!?" Yknow? I've develloped some software with other people in the past and what you need is a Devellopement Document.. what will it do, how will it do it, who will do it etc etc and it has to cover EVERY ASPECT of the TC.. not just the name and a sawgun yknow?

TC projects come and go like so much waves on a beach.. Besides, TCs don't get downloaded much. I may be wrong but I think we've all lost interest in TCs with Doom and Quake2 and their awfully large array of, mostly boring, TCs. Do a SP level pack, or a kickass MP level pack.. dunno.. Even Mods aren't that much popular... Nobody i know of takes the time to run the myriad of glowsabers, two bladed sabers, ultra super mega kick in the face weapon pack or the super funky Jedi dancing Duck or any other Mods... TCs stand for TOO COMPLICATED.. people never finish them, and in the rare cases where they DO finish it, the left 90% of what they wanted to include out of the TC because they didn't have the time or the knowledge to do it.

Bladesinger is right but also wrong.

One of the reasons people don't finish their TC's it's because their not all that well organized. I decided to join Zell and work with him on a TC and we're going to start with Design Documents. It is the key to success. Some people don't realize that beginning a TC or Mod is almost as important as building a house or a Game.

But if people would stop building these sometimes cool but anoying SP Map's and actually started building Multiplayer Map's maybe TC's would become more and more interesting.

I for one do not download a SP just because it's Single Player. I download it because of the architecture and the textures applied into them. Some people should start working on Multiplayer Map's because they have the talent. One thing I would like to see in the Jedi Knight Community would be a game that looks a little like Quake III: Arena or Team Arena. The use of RBots would be perfect in these surcomstances.

In my opinion, you are right about TC projects that just don't come out. But if people would start working on Multiplayer Map's, I think it would change.

Because Single Player was fun at a time but I think that we should try Multiplayer instead.

Of course this is my opinion. But then, I have a question: Why are the Quake games so popular. They Left The Damn Kiddy Table And Grew Up Dammit!!! Have a nice day!!
