Locking a .gob?
2001-06-21, 12:34 PM #1
I need to find a way to "lock" a .gob, so it cant be opened by conman, but jk cant still read it..I know this was possible with mots, with whatever the container file is for that. i need this for an AHP, so a hacker cant change the gob. I have one cog in the gob changed so anyone not using this gob would get a checksum. If the one cog loads, all the other ones will as well to overide any hacks the person has enabled. Now all I need to do is make it so people cant change the cogs in the actual gob (which would be the ones trying to override any running hacks)If they were able to chang ethe ones in the gob they would just put their hacked cogs in the gob.
- Thanks for any help,
Hyperion

Who told you that? They're a liar. Sorry, but there's no way to lock a gob.

Just don't play with people who cheat. Might I suggest Kicker Helper? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

No one told me it, I experienced it was a star trek mod a while ago. It was too long ago for me to remember anything else about the mod. Conman locked up when opening it, but mots ran it fine

I've had something similar happen to me with a GOB I tested back when JKBTG was still around. I didn't pry into details, but I was unable to open it in ConMan. I seem to recall being able to use another program with it, though its exact nomenclature escapes me at the moment.

On a more serious note, though, your entire AHP design is whack. Seriously. If you modify only one file, what prevents someone who gets access to it from putting it in their COG directory and doing whatever they want with every other file there? It's a futile design; you'd be much better off regobbing every relevent COG file so as to keep "hackers" from being able to mess with any of them.
