I've got Jed (and tons of other editing gear) and I've tried the beginners tutorial on this site - so has my mate. We've both have the same problem that the level won't load...

Can someone help me out, I know it's not my computer so it must be something I'm doing. I just wanna get started and it's killing me!

How are you saving it? Please list your steps. Also press f10 to see if there's any problems.

Let me introduce you to one of Massassi's hosted sites and a helpfull editing resource [shameless plug] Have Lightsaber Will Travel [/shameless plug]

Seriously though, go to my site. Go to the editing help/troubleshooting section. I have a full description of the different things that can cause that problem and how to fix them.

I've tried using the F10 menu and it lists no problems...

Here are the steps I take when I save.

Save as - then type a one word name.
Complete episode header.
Save again.
Save JKL to and type the same one word name.
Gob Project and type the same one word name.

I put it all in the right place and when I load up the game (I go into serial connection and select the level in the normal way) it reads "could not load level"

This is really annoying because I think I'm doing everything right but it just doesn't work...

Make sure the .jed file name is the same as that of the .jkl file name. For some reason it doesn't always save the .jkl file properly if they are different.

Check the other settings in the episode editor. In particular, make sure you have the level type set properly. If its an sp level, you will also need to make a startup cog. Also, when you make changes to the episode editor, make sure you hit the update button before you save.

I hope i don't get pelted with cyber-tomatoes for recommending something other than JED for level editing, but if you'r a beginner, go to www.magicforce.net and download JKedit. It's much better for beginners, and there are tons of tutorials that tell you everything you need to know on that site.

[me throws rotten cyber-fruit at ChewbaccaRC]

In the history of JK editing I think there has been 1 good level made with JKedit. Jed has a steeper learning curve, but I think its better in the long run. Here's a couple of reasons.

1. Most people here use Jed. It's hard to get help when you have problems with JKedit.
2. You have to pay ($35 I think) to get the full version of JKedit. Jed is free.
3. Jed can use pluggings. JKedit can't.
