I just started editing and i d-loaded some mats for my lvl how do i use them now?

Put them in your project directory (where you save your .jed file to - there should be nothing not associated with the project/level in the directory). Then run the jktree plugging that comes with Jed. It will create a mat subdirectory inside your project directory and put them in there (or you could do it manually).
