half of a sphere?
2002-06-03, 1:25 PM #1
right now to make half of a sphere that sits on the ground i am going to the brush menu and making a 32-sided sphere brush.

sphere has not yet been implemented in the curves menu in gtkradiant.

i wan this sphere to be hollow, but having that many brushes won't allow me to compile the map (i think this is what the problem is... it says there is a max of 300).

using the cone function won't work because you can't get it totally circular.

any ideas?

go back to the drawing board - you're going to have to get some mad geometry on to acheive this feature. 'Build a better sphere' - as it were.

Sadly, if you do, and release it, it won't ever be fully appreciated by players. I know that here we are always lusting after better geometry, but try to remember that better architechture is not always better gameplay.

I'll see if I can do it tonight, and let you know if I do.

You can get the cone near-circular, and it is as circular are you are going to get.

How can the brush limit be 300!? It's supposed to be 13000!

the cone method should be sphercal enough. I've done this with bevels when they aren't crved enough and it works, it might or might not work with a cone

make a perfect cube
turn it into a cone
pull the tip of the cone to half it's height
That lot you seem to know..
Now curve>insert and start adding/inserting rows/columns you'll have to experiment to get them evenly spaced but it should make the circle more circular.

Hope that helps

Brush limit? There is no brush limit. I've seen maps with nearly 300,000.

i don't know why stupid me didn't catch this earlier.

make a sphere with the brush menu, then just use CSG subtract to cut it in half.

oh and about that max brush limit.. when it happens again i'll show you the full error message, as i'm sure i'm not saying it right.

it happens when i try to BSP the map.
