I've heard about Gimp. is it better than Photo studio?

You mean Photoshop? Not really, but you can't beat the price. If you really want to spend some money on something though, then Photoshop or PSP7 is the way to go. PSP7 is cheaper, but doesn't have that much missing compared to photoshop. It's just they seem to be two different approaches to doing the same thing, in my experience.
