Bah - the weather in there is useless! It looks crappy and is not MP compatable ...

The rain in my mod looks much more appealling and doesn't stain!

Yes, but is it MP, and if so, how can I do that? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

It is MP.

Joren, your post has made me think - what do I do with the mod I have made?

Well, I have rotating doors and weather. What should I do with it?

Should I nab some of the other source code that is available and tack it on, release it and say - "this is my mod, which is largely the work of other programmers!" or do I just release it as my mod, with my source and let other people who make mods give me some credit and release it?

What do I do - this code and mod have been resting on my harddrive for almost 2 months - untouched ... I need some advice, because i'm no longer part of any mod ... do you think we should get a ton of mappers together and make some maps that use the mods ... modifications, then release it with the new maps ...?

I think the best thing to do is to release it to the public. Have them give you credit for it, because I know plenty will want to use it - and let anyone who wants to try to improve upon it do so. That's what I would do.

Yep - I just got permission to use the weather that is in use in the Q3F Mod. The doors I have are mine to use also. SO, what I was thinking is merging this with a mod like JediPlus (all of what I have is publicly available already, it's just that no one has publicly announced the port to JK2.

Anyway, I'd like to get a bunch o mappers and make some custom maps showcasing this work. Let me know what you think.

I'd be interested in being the first. I'd love to make a rainy/snowy Coruscant level, and I am already working on the map. It is still a little bit away from me implementing it, bu still, I am interested. And why would you confine this discovery to a mod? I would make it open to everyone, not just those who dl a certain mod.

I've done some thinking, yes, releasing the source would be a good idea, I guess I'm just shy about ... good coders laughing at my stupid and inconsistent commentaries.

Bah, who cares, they'll have to live with it [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

I cleaned it up yesterday, but now I'm getting some kind of NULL_brush error.

Anyway, the rain works, the snow's shaders are kind of messed up.

I like the rain better, anyway.

Like I was saying, I meant to clean it up, compile it and post it, and invite some mappers to start making a map pack.

Any way, the func_rotate works on all axii, X Y and Z, the only problem is, when a sound plays (such as opening or closing, and the go-between sound), the go-between sound does not stop. I think I should just do a quick fix by making it only play once.

So ... if all goes well, I'll compile, put together the entities.def (for MP, in GTK or JK2 Radiant) sometime in the next 2 days.

oh, oh! I want to be one of the mappers! I'm not very good with texturing, making it look good, but im good at archi!

Ok, I've gathered together a nice ammount of things to attempt to implement:

Item Dropping (like in SOF2 or RTCW)
Ladders
SAGA style map (possibly SAGA Only)
Player Classes (Jedi, Sith, Rebel, Imperial)

Which will (hopefully) make for a pretty interesting Mod, full of holes and crap that I'll later have to fix.

Lol, I've got to build something before I do any requests for mappers to make maps.

Now, I KNOW I want Joren to make something - his stuff is always visually exciting.

Anyway, to make a map for a mod with GTK Radiant actually turns out to be harder than to map with JK2Radiant, if you'll beleive it. With GTK Radiant, you need to copy all your PK3s (for sanity's sake, so you can use some textures from the original for mapping, otherwise, GTK Radiant acts like a whiner when you specify the new mp_entities.def (located in the scripts folder under base)

Oh - I thought I was going to explain this well, but it looks like I need to write a Tutorial on it.

Does anybody see where I'm going?

Anyway, the new entities.def telss ya whassup with mappin dis stuff - and I'll write a faq so you can map it.

Also, familiarize yoself with saga map scripts, you gonna hafta write one if youza gonna map for it.

wudan, if you do the coding, I'll be glad to do any mapping that might be necessary for this, provided it doesn't conflict too heavily wiht 'good ol' nar bar', and such.

Send me any info.

kgmoller@attbi.com

and such

basically im presuming this will combine the coding you have done *weather, doors, etc* as well as any SAGA map stuff.

Fortunately for me, I am still one of the few stubbornly sticking to my JO Radiant. And I would like to add rain (or snow if you get it fixed) to the Coruscant level I am working on (its showcased in the showcase forum under "Back in the saddle").

Here are some questions I have wudan. The weather you are coding. Is it possible for me to hard code it into a level; i.e. you do not need a mod, just the map to use it? And if so, is it possible to represent it in brush form by just applying a texture to a brush (to avoid annoying things like raining indoors...)? And is it possible to adjust the speed and angle which rain and snow falls?

Inquiring minds want to know. Lol, collaboration rules! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Sounds like it's been confirmed that weather can be used in MP. So what took us so long to find out?!

Uh - it's not the same as in SP, ie it's smart, and doesn't suck.

SP rain seems to render based on the direction you are facing - behind a rock, when you look up, it looks like you can see through the rock, et cetera, in the modified rain, you add a key to worldspawn, if you are playing on a mod that has it, it'll rain rain away, but not indoors. rain is actually particles created underneath a skybox and then they fall to the ground and make a pretty little 'splash' lookin thingy.

I didn't care for SP rain, so I used some good open source from a Q3 mod (www.q3f.com) to port it into mp. Looks good, methinks.
