Little glowy things?

I was just wondering how I would make them.

take a look at this thread if you don't know what I mean: http://forums.massassi.net/html/Forum5/HTML/008691.html
(The little white things in the second shot)

Also, how could I change the color and size?

I assume you mean the round blue things, those are flares,
textures/flares
their red and blue.

You can make them, just familiarize yourself with the shader you want to emulate, make the new texture that will be your 'flare'

And ... mess around with it.

i also believe those could just be light entities

select an entity, and then change the size by typing light in the key field, then typing something like 50 in the value field.

then, type scale in the key field, and in the value field type 10.

You can find an example of this in Jawa_oasis. My level. meh

Ok, tried the texture on a small cubic brush but of course I just got one little flare on each side. How do I make it so there is only one flare that always faces the player?

tex the square with nodraw , exept the top, put the flare there but position the the square so that the top will always be visible. you can use anyside you want as long as only one side is visible and is always visible.

Yeah, pretty much what djwguitarman said. Just make sure that the faces you put those on are always square(won't really work otherwise).

that's not true, I put it on a brush that was a rectangle and it worked fine.

a square is a rectangle is a polygon is a human invention to describe linear objects and the permutations of them.

No, no... I said the face has to be square. If it's not, then you're more likely to get whacked out visual effects(you still might not). The brush can be rectangle, but the face the shader is put on is supposed to be square.

Here opus, have some candy.

ok, you lost me there. the face that the flare tex is on has two side longer than the other two sides. I use "fit" and it works fine.

I did have a large problem with having the brush too small.

What I was trying to say was:

When you're using autosprites, you're supposed to have them on a face that is square(you know, 8*8 or something to that effect), and the rest of the faces end up being nodraw. If the flares are autosprites, they're supposed to be used on a face that's square. I'm assuming that they're autosprites, considering that's the only real way you can have them facing you at all times. If they work on rectangular faces or otherwise, then they need to update the shader manual.
