Water foot steps errors in MP - WTF is this?
2002-10-17, 6:58 PM #1
Ok, I've been getting this really stupid glitch that's been popping up in this new MP level of mine that I'm doing. THe glitch is that everywhere I go in the level, I make water foot steps. However, there isn't a single water brush in the level. WTF is causing this error? It's really starting to pis me off to the point that I want to kill something. Anyone know what is causing this, for the sake of my sanity (and any small living creatures around me)?

not sure what causes it, but I had the same problem in one of my mp maps. I was using an unusal texture to make blue steps, and the game read it as water I guess. I also accidentaly used sp entity definitions to create a ctf map, which doomed the map to the recycle bin. See if you are using the right entity definitions.

I'm pretty sure I'm using the right definitions for this map as I do have access to the right entities for MP. I did had a shader that had in error in it (it was a custom sky box texture) but I removed and I'm using one of JO's sky boxes. This error seems to only happen when running on certain surfaces. Could it be that I didn't set up the compile methods right or something? Only the definitions needed to be changed in the Project's settings, right?

There seems to be a bug in MP that makes the shader entry 'surfaceparm metalsteps' sound like water. Best way to go about removing it would be to either create a new shader of your own using the same texture without the entry, or to put a thin clip brush over the top of the surface.

Yep, just clip brush it.
