Deciding on doing a Mod
2003-08-08, 12:28 PM #1
Hi!
I was rumaging through the assets0 and 1, and just thought: "I could sure think of making some simple Mods, but for what?" Then it hit me! I could change the sounds, for an Ugnaut! From the "deafault male sounds" to some Ugnaut sounds... But two problems with this is that,
1: I found no config file that pointed to that folder in assets1
2: I have no idea on how to make a Mod, and make the game recognise it as a Mod.
So here I come, asking for advice
On how to make, the modification device!

/Edward
Why did I Rhyme at the end here?
For the simplest reason that I had JUST watched the Grinch.

OK, I think I know how you do this... if you want it to just be a mod that you place in your /base folder and voila, it works, u just find the folders in assets0.pk3 and/or assets1.pk3, and the subfolder(s) of whatever aspect you want to mod, and you find the specific thing(s) you want to mod, and you create the exact same path in a new .pk3 and use the exact same filename as the file you want to replace. For example, if you want to replace an .md3 file (model file) called cow.md3, in a folder called /barn which is inside the /models folder, you would create the following in your new .pk3: /models/barn/ and change the name of your .md3 to cow.md3, and place it in the /barn folder. If you place this new .pk3 in your Base folder, the /models/barn/cow.md3 model will be replaced with whatever model you put in your .pk3. (Disclaimer: As far as I know, there IS NO /barn/cow.md3, I made that up for the sake of example. I just don't want anybody trying to find something that doesn't exist and come complaining to me... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/rolleyes.gif] ).

If you want a mod that you activate by going to Setup -> Mods on the main menu, there is a different procedure. Instead of stuffing all your stuff into a .pk3, you create a folder in your /GameData folder called whatever you want your mod to be labeled as in the Setup -> Mod list. Then, you create the folders for the things you're changing inside the folder you just made (For example, if the name of your mod is "MyMod", and you're replacing models, the folder for models would be /GameData/MyMod/models/, or /GameData/MyMod/maps/ for maps, or whatever. See assets0.pk3 for all the folders). Anyway, once you have everything good and dandy, create a new .zip file (or something else like it), and copy the /MyMap folder into it, which should in turn copy all of its subfolders in their correct order as well. Now, when the person who receives the .zip file extracts it all into their /GameData folder, the mod should be listed in their Setup -> Mods list, which they can then activate.

If I am wrong on any aspect, please correct me. I hope this helps! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Problem is that there is no "sound" folder for an Ugnaut, so how should I implement it?

Hay! I still have a problem here! How do I give the Ugnaut skin a new Sound set?

Instead of Generic_MP_Male, into this new folder I call Ugnaut...

I'm not entirely sure at the moment, but the http://jediknightii.net forums are really the center for JO editing.
