Character saber selection and scripting
2003-10-26, 12:42 PM #1
I was almost too embarrassed to post this here but:

How do I enable the player to choose saber types/character in a custom SP map (i.e. single, dual or staff)? Whenever I load up a map it always defaults back to my last player character in JA, whether I load the map from in-game or from the start-up screen. I played around for about 2 hours last night but couldn’t figure it out. Shameful, I know.

In regards to scripting: why is there no BehavEd file in the JA folder (or I am just blind)? The JA-GTK radiant install put folders for SOF2 and EF with BehavEd in it. Can I just copy one of those into the appropriate folder of JA and alter the preferences for source data etc? Will that then use the Icarus II system (as opposed to Icarus I) or are we still waiting for that?

I have done some searching and reading of manuals, but no with no luck. Any help will be most appreciated.

Basically summarize my answer on LucasForums:

The target_level_change entity holds key/values to call menus as well as maps. Since the saber/character customization screens are dealt entirely in the menus, and the cvars that are processed in them, the answer lies in the menus most likely.

Would you want to shave with a lightsaber?

I don't like quake, never liked quake, and don't like Star Wars quake. So basically jk2mp.exe never gets used on my computer.

Thanks again Michael [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] I haven't dealt with the menus much but my weekend is pretty free so I'll have a fiddle and see what happens.

Cool, I'd like to see what you find out about all that... I would fiddle with the menus again, but I'm in Radiant mode right now, and don't wanna leave that mode at the moment! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for it as weekends are the only time I can really get stuck into it ( [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif], the nerve of my uni, expecting me to do work, pffft) but if I figure anything out, I'll be sure to let you know.

Like I said, I'm busy mapping. I seriously doubt I'd get that done before the end of the week!

I don't like having my name plastered on large boxes with repetitive textures and hordes of bland same-ol' same-ol' enemies and no plot. Ahem. Not mentioning any particular map. Ahem.

Anyway, you don't need to write us a book or anything, but since you will likely be fiddling with the menus for your own project, it'd be nice to help fellow mappers with some insights - you might be the JA menu expert for some period of time! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]
