Coding Class
2004-02-17, 2:58 AM #1
I don't know if this is the approiate place to post this, I hope it is.

Several people have expressed some interest in learning how to write code in JA to make Mods. Although I can't teach you all of C++ I can teach you enough to get you started.

Therefore I though I would teach a class on MSN messanger on Beggining Coding in JA.

Is there any interest in this? If there is I would be happy to accept 3-7 people.

Please post if you are interested.

Woohoo! 4 people this is great. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

How much C++ do you know MoeJoe? And everyone else? I'm hoping everyone has had a little some scripting experience, even if its something like Icarus or BehavEd.

I'd probally get everyone on sometime at night (I'm Eastern Standard Time) at the end of this week sometime. I need some time to make a graphics and write some stuff for everyone.

Well, I took a year of C++ in college....I know the basics of calling functions, global and local variables, boolean operators, making and including header files, etc.....nothing too involved, though - we had just started working with objects when the class finished. I've started to teach myself Icarus scripting - seems loosely based on C++, and I wrote a custom script to set off a trap; however, I'm still having trouble with it. For full details, see my post here about needing scripting help....I don't believe the problem is in the script anymore, but I could be wrong.....
Anyway, the end of this week sounds fine with me (I'm in the eastern time zone too - Delaware.) Just keep me updated on the time and how to join in (I've never been in an MSN chatroom, only AIM ones.)

TTYL,

MoeJoe

Yo moe I sent ya a e-mail back buddy. Besides, the trap setup ya wanted. Is more of a mapping solution then scripting. Freyr, You can stick with c++ tuts or class's. I can give free advice on how to treat ICARUS scripting as your friend. Refer to Tutorial Requests? Post them if you got any.

When i get home, I can upload one of my programs and the source and post the link here so you can see how far i have got in C++.

I know all "basic" stuff and stuff like vectors, file streams, structures, functions and maybe a little bit of class...

As far as scripting goes... i know cog [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] and I know C-Script(scripting language for 3DGameStudio)

Well.. I can be a teaching aid, I understand Scripting to the fullest extent. However, the idea of your NPC use in MP did most intrege me. What I wish to learn is the advanced coding for JKA. How to create new moves, EG climb a ledge left to right. Wall hug like from the metal gear games. Crawl. Possible in MP which is why I want to get a NPC idea going on. I would bother aaron with it but he is busy as is. I am eastern, Southern Ontario, Canada. Or Across form new york if ya like.

We'll be using the freeware compiler MingW. You can download it here:

You will also need the Source Development Kit which is available for download here:

Very good MysteriousSith [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif], what compiler are you using for that?

You should have no problem adapting to JA coding.

Actually, I ended up downloading Dev C++ - it was the "other" compiler our professor had us use at home if we didn't have (read: couldn't afford) MicroShaft Visual Studio, so I'm pretty familiar with that.....
