Hi!
New computer, new challanges! Been thinking of editing to JO, and it might not be all that greate... I have 2 major questions:
1. I have GTKRadiant 1.4.0, and I find it a little tricky with this layout and the way they've put everything up, so I wonder... Is there anyway I can make a level in 3D Studio Max R3 (basic outlines) and then import it to GTK (and add all that is needed, players, movers, etc)?

2. How do these movers work... Could someone give me a Manual for Dummies, or a basic Crash Course?

Thanks.

errr...... you got a problem with GTK radiant. I suggest you use that. And what do you mean by movers. There are things like func_rotating and func_door, or do you mean things like func_static that require scripting?

What, I can't import 3Ds files into Radient? Hm... What about 3D objects in general? ASC? DXF? OBJ?

And those funcs, yeah, well, I think I'll start with plain old doors that open when you come near it, and then I might be thinking of scripting... I was thinking of making doors like these: http://edward.leuf.org/show/grsndoors.zip
Anyway, I'll start simple... Door + Approach...

You can't make a level with models only. It won't work...well.

Yes, in fact, you CAN. At least, with Q3 you could, and JA is just Q3 with a few nifty sabers and overly visual animations. There's a certain 3DSMax exporter you need, though. I have no idea what file format, but I'll do some research. Mostly, you just have to design the level in a certain way that you don't end up with certain shapes and surfaces that the game's engine can't compile. Remember, 3DSMax's rendering is far superior to.. anything. You are required to dumb down the models for it to work.

What about leaking? (Unless, of course, brushes are used for skybox or borders)

I doubt you can have a level with just models and the "void." (along with clip brushes)

Echo, it's perfectly possible to model a map, it'll be a ***** to VIS and clip it tho.

No, 3DSMax has a brush exporter. You can export a file-type that is for brushes, and, essentially, make a level in 3DSMax. You're still going to have to recompile, etc, though. I'll look into it tomorrow.

That's really bugged, for as far as I know.

I have a map from Torchy/David. I'm not sure if it was released yet. A Cavern type map. It was made entirely out of models except for a small stream.

I think you can export the 3Ds file if you open it with the Tempest game pack thingy...or does that only happen in gmax? I thought I remembered an option in Tempest that allowed you to save as a .map file...
