Massassi Single Player Jedi Outcast/Academy Level Contest:

The Massassi Temple will soon host its first Single Player Level Contest. The rules are simple:

1. Nothing illegal
2. Level must be for Jedi Outcast or Jedi Academy (levels will be judged on gameplay, story, and visuals, so if there's something in JA that you really want, better make your level for JA)
3. Level must not be released anywhere until after the winners are announced and posted here (feel free to submit to other sites after the contest is over)
4. Deadline: Sunday, August 8th, 2004 (about 3 months)
5. Rules subject to change - we will post the final rules and official contest announcement within 1 week.

This time, there will be prizes (to be announced soon - minimum: 1 PC game of choice for top 3, possibly a hosting package or two, and others we haven't hashed out yet).

(I thought the contest info need a thread so I can link it in my sig soon) [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Yeah. I'm wondering the same thing. Was the contest a dead idea, or is it going to happen. There's no official thread, the final rules weren't posted, as they were promised. There has been no more news about the contest.

Does this mean it's over even before it began? Dead and buried?

And 2 seperate JK contests are going, and we see 4 or 5 new maps already posted. Wait, what?

*gebs it*

Yeah, I want to know if it still exists. I plan to release an ASI level for the contest, but first I need to know if it still exists, just in case I can release it early.

Dunno. But I'm thinking it's still on.

Then why on earth all the staff members of Massassi refuse to see this and other threads where people have inquired about the situation. I'm beginning to think it's cancelled and Brian is too ashamed of the whole thing to speak anything about it... It was mentioned after all at JediKnight.net also. Maybe Brian is trying to make everybody forget the whole thing by just maintaining absolute silence...

Well I dont know if I may have something posted in the crietra of the contest. Seeing I posted my idea on how I want the SP TC thing of mine to go. It may be a long while before I can finish it. Let alone the first part.

If there was a contest like this, I think it should be more organized. Prehaps if we form a team for this.

Maybe not... I couldn't participate if it was hosted by MR... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] And on the other hand, we couldn't possibly afford any prizes. Brian did, after all, promise quite juicy prizes. Who knows if that was the very reason that caused him to have second thoughts - maybe he couldn't afford them any better!

Hmm to perfom that kind of publicity for prizes, wouldnt it be a good idea to do a sponsership? You know a fundraiser.. For a copy of a starwars classic game? Cheap that way I imagine..

I suspect Brian forgot about it when there was a noticable lack of any showcasing from anyone other than lassev.

If Brian is still actually willing to do the whole prizes thing, everything else just depends on there being enough entries.

Well, a contest always strikes some interest. Maybe people will get going on editing if the contest had more ground.

And then I laughed again.
This site doesn't have anything to do with JA/JO anymore, it's gone back to the roots, and other games. I mean, we see more UT2K3 levels than we do JO and JA combined.
All too often do people tell us JK editors to move on, while their beloved JO/JA levels never get to a showcase, much less a release. Move on, JA/JO editors: No one cares, at least not at massassi. I personally think it's sad, given that JA is probably one of the prettier, and more community-strong games in a while. Massassi could give much more depth in that department... could.

Interesting enough, I send an inquiry to Brian concerning this issue, as the deadline is approaching and my level is finished, and the answer was rather interesting:

Brian told me he has been so busy in RL that he simply hasn't had the time or energy to continuously advertise or post information about the contest.

However, the contest has NOT been officially cancelled, so don't listen to jEDIkIRBY's mean words! Now, it's of course up to Brian to decide how things will proceed from now on.

If Brian is busy, maybe we could form a group to continue the contest?

If the original deadline holds, there's not really time for anything anymore. Brian should post an announcement right away at the front page (like I suggested to him). There might be people out there who have maps about ready to be submitted.

However, if he decides, due to the lack of advertising so far, to postpone the deadline and give more time, I'm out of the competition. I won't postpone the release of my 100% ready level any further, nor would I have a new level ready (it's uncertain whether I will continue mapping after this anyway).

It's a diabolic thing; If I quit JA mapping, I should also quit all the forums related to it (although they say you cannot quit Massassi once you make the mistake of wandering in...). The worst thing is that I still would like to map, and I have great ideas I haven't tried before - some custom md3 modelling included. I would like to model some simple models, but there's no urge to do it if I don't map.

But the truth is that I don't know if it's worth it. If all the other mappers I know disappear one by one from the scene, I would be left alone, and also the audience is shrinking smaller and smaller, day by day.

This is what worries me.

Maybe if the was a really great mod/project, many editors can work together.

/me shrug

But, often, mods don't get finished.
