Ideas please..

Hello

I am thinking of starting the creation of a JO SP level. However, ive tried this many times and i eventually gave up on all of them, and now, seeing as i have nothing to do... i want to try again. Except this time, i want good ideas that will keep me going. I already thought of a few:

- A "prison break" theme, where you start inside a cell and have to fight your way out, sorta like that level in jedi academy, i forget the name.

- you dont get your saber until far in, but you start with high force powers

and thats where i run out of ideas. so, if you can think of some, id like some hardcore ideas that will keep me going, and in a few months or so, you might... just might.. see a new SP map for JO.

Please? :neckbeard:

Well, coming up with ideas for storyline is part of game design, a very important aspect I believe.

The thing is, I found that coming up with your own personal story layout is really the best idea. Sure people might suggest stories, but coming up with your own gives an added bonus: it helps motivation to continue. Because it's your idea, it's your own personal, unique project to bring to the world.

Also, I suggest making up your story because it can be formed to reflect your editing capabilities. Overly complex and demanding storylines would require skilled and challenging editing efforts. I don't want to sound crabby but this is what I believe. Like I said before, creating your own storyline like having your own baby. A personal joy that you can work with till the end.

ive actually never heard it being put quite that way, but its true, and i agree fully, but all im asking is some design ideas, i mean.. i find i make the first part of the level, then the second part is just like random objects to blow up and stormtroopers to kill.. there isnt really any flow to it, and thats where i need some help. There are lots of people who have been editing for a long time, and id just like to have suggestions on things i could do, and if i dont like them ill not use them or alter them.

...Or i could just realease versions of the map and let everyone give consructive critisism..

Well, the thing is, if you need "suggestions on things i could do" we would need to know if you have the abilities to do those things in the first place.

For one, can you script? If you know how to script, there is a vast range of potential. For example, you can do a steath mission. When an enemy NPC spots you, he would trigger a script that tells him to alert backup to take you down. The player would have to be quiet for awhile instead of the usual run-in-and-shoot gameplay.

Or you can do something that is almost completely puzzle-based. For example like this map by lassev where the gameplay is focused on, rather violent, logic gameplay. Such a map is very complicated scripting-wise, but you can easily see how this introduces an interesting, unique level of fun.

Or how about high-intensity action surroundings? For example, that JA SP level with the tram flying through the city. It was different that other SP levels because it featured a dynamic, highly-animated environment. That would require understanding sky portals and the movement of brushes to give the illusion of buildings moving away fast.

what u said there, was what i was looking for. I dont have JA, and my scripting ability is very limited. If you can suggest some good places to learn to script, that would be welcome. I used to have a script program, but i formatted my computer recently and lost the install file. I like the idea of a stealth mission, i can think of a few possible scenarios now. Thanks for the help, and i would appreciate the name of the scripter i misplaced.

There should be a Word document that comes with the scripting program explaining how it works.
