Error: Max_Patch_Planes
2007-05-30, 12:28 PM #1
Well I've got a problem. I put something together on Gtk and when I tried to compile it, it said:

ERROR: MAX_PATCH_PLANES

I quickly discovered that that meant the large 4096x3840 cone I had put over the level, and when I deleted it, it worked.

But I need the cone... how can I make that work?

Oh and one more thing.

If I wanted to make a door in the cone patch, how can I clip the door out? I know from experience you can't clip patches, but I'd just like to know if there is anything I could do, besides making my own cone... which would suck... .(

If I recall, usually MAX_PATCH_PLANES problem happens when a patch, such as your cone, is either too warped or just too big. Would it be possible to form that cone structure out of multiple patches rather than one giant one?

I dont exactly know how I could do that.. besides making a patch mesh and transforming it.

What I'm trying to complete sorta needs a huge cone. If you've played Halo 2, then what I'm doing is re-making the duel area on The Great Journey, where you kill Tartarus. Its sorta shaping up.

This is it with the huge cone:

So I would have to make a patch mesh and transform it? Or is there some easier way?

EDIT: I tried making my own cone with patch meshes. It is easier than I predicted ^^

If you are feeling adventurous, you could turn the dome into a model. It would probably easier in terms of handling it.

If you want a door in that, you've got work to do. You'd need to manually build the entire thing with brushes before clipping.

Well what I ended up doing is by using around 10 3x3 patch meshes, and a pre-made cone for reference, I constructed the cone manually, and raised the vertices of one section of the brush and created a lower part for the door. Like so:

Thanks for the help. ^^
