Terrain

I'm having problems importing terrain into my map, now. I created everything in a sweet program I found that creates heightmaps, and then imported it into easygen to create the textures. I used this tutorial, followed it to the word (except for the last part where it shows you how to .pk3 it, I'm not at that step), and it didn't quite work out. In this picture, here's what the terrain looks like in Easygen.

And now, here's what it all looks like imported into Radiant.

Annnd here it is in-game (no lighting).

As you can see by the fact that the rock faces I textured are there, the terrain is physically there, but for some reason the game is not finding my textures I made in Easygen. I can't figure out what went wrong, though, I added the shader to the right folder and then to the shaderlist and all. Anyone have any idea? Thanks a million. :)

Did you look at the shader?

I don't know the first thing about actually creating or editing shaders, sadly... Do you have an idiot's guide to doing such a thing? :( Thanks :)

Change the shader file within Easygen before exporting.

Also, I think this tutorial is better.

Er. So are you saying I'd have to start all over again? I did a lot of tweaking to make it fit. Is there a file I can access and change code in to fix this?

Maybe you just have to change the shader file, who knows. But I will state, like I always have, that EasyGen is a very outdated and problematic program. So it could be anything really. Only time I got the thing to work was for Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

But if it WAS a shader problem, the game should have shown the no-texture black-and-white shaders. What you might have is duplicate planes sharing the same space.

Well you could make a test map and check if changing the shader before exporting it works.

Here's exactly what I did, originally. I exported the terrain into its own map, because I didn't want to risk putting it into my original map. So I opened that map, copied it all, and pasted it into the first one. Well I just compiled and ran the map the terrain was exported into, and it all shows up. It's just that, well...

Then its a shader problem. Either the game doesn't recognize the shader or something was exported incorrectly in the file.

Well anyhow I just textured the whole terrain with a normal texture, so the shader issue is resolved, but now for some damn reason the compile isn't working. During the Vis stage it took literally more than 12 hours, and it was only about halfway done one stage when I found it. It's really aggravating, there's nothing that should be taking this long.

Turn the terrain into detail.

It is all detail. :< This is genuinely confusing. I even ungrouped all the terrain, regrouped it all without the skybox selected, and made it detail.

If your computer is fast enough and not crap, you really don't need to do -VIS until the final compile. I never do -VIS until the end.

I've since dropped this project. Sorry. Look in the showcase forum for the rest of the project, though.
