I remember seeing the video when he said that. Bill kind of grinned a "you idiot" grin when he said it. Great video.

Yes. Strange.

Ctrl+Alt+Del is bount to the 'shutdown' command in most linux distros... Ctrl+Alt+Backspace (by default) will kill your X server... And everything else? Well, you can bind it to whatever you want. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I don't know if this is widespread, but many of the computers I've used have an even more powerful command than Ctrl+Alt+Delete. Oftentimes, my PC will lock up to the point that even the "Three-Fingered Salute" won't work, and I've found one that works without fail (for me, at least):

Ctrl+Alt+<Backspace

That seems to cut right through to my BIOS, and immediately cuts the power. I don't know how it's different from the power button, though...

As far as old commands are concerned, when the Intel 80486 (preceeder of the Pentium I) was dominant, it came with a "turbo" feature that could cut the speed, so that one could use absolutely ANCIENT clockspeed-based programs. It cut the speed from the proccessor's normal speed (66-120 Mhz) to around 20Mhz. It was used with:

Ctrl+Alt+(+) for full speed, and
Ctrl+Alt+(-) for reduced speed.

It's rather amazing how many different standard keyboard commands there have been made... a few examples (some of which you probably already know of):

Alt+Space
Alt+F4
Alt+Tab
Ctrl+Esc
Ctrl+Break (usually disabled)

Alt+tab is one of my favorite yes

I've always wondered, is there a short key cut for maximize window? Because XP is ghey..

Well, the closest I can find to a "maximize" key if F11, but that puts it into a different mode, and removes the header bar, and start menu.

Use Alt+Space to bring up a little menu in the upper left corner, then hit the "X" key. That will get you what you want, but that's two shortcut keys, not one.

Not in Windows, but in KDE you can map it to any key combo you want.
