OH WTF!

"met the Canadian teenager on the Internet while the two were playing "Counterstrike," a popular weapons-based computer game"

GO FIGURE BLAME IT ON THE VIDEO GAMES! They couldn't have just said, "met the boy on the internet.."

"Local gun enthusiasts and sporting goods store employees were not shocked a parent would purchase an AK-47 for a teen."

Just because the mother bought the gun for the child, don't assume things. These people weren't surprised, we don't know the background of the mother or child. She could be some ex-military chick and he could be some hard-core hunter or just likes safety.

It may be like buying a Ferrari for a 14year old but not if you buy it for the right one that can respect it!

hmm... wouldn't a ferrari just come from parents who are both possibly stupid and rich?

but anyhow... the whole gun mailing thing, i would put down to the naivety of the kids, but pointing a gun in a school (it doesnt say if the gun was empty or loaded or what) at a friend, and showing it off in a public place? thats just stupidity, he should be punished for his stupidity.

and the whole computer game thing... i don't really care anymore, the problem is the law... a kid getting an ak-47 has nothing to do with computer games.

That's EXACTLY my point. Then what the hell was the point in them saying that.

They have to have a scapegoat for society's problems. It's a bit like what Hitler did with the Jews...

The Canadian teen, from the Hamilton area, appeared in an Ontario court Tuesday for a bail hearing. He is charged with assault with a weapon, threatening, possession of a prohibited weapon and pointing a firearm. The Catholic high school student allegedly pointed the loaded weapon at another teen at Joan of Arc elementary school and showed off the gun to friends Jan. 16 at a coffee shop.

Herm... Me thinks I would of heard this on the news??? <---(lives in Toronto area...)

And honestly, one thing that ppl have to realize is that the only kids that "weapons-based games" are going to affect are the idiotic ones who have no lives so they try to base one off of such a game...

guys, you have to consider that these kids played counterstrike, counterstrike.

If that's not a sign of mental imbalance, I don't know what is.

Of course they'll blame it on the game. I can't tell you how many times I've read or seen news items like this:

Late last night an out-of-control SUV struck and killed an elderly woman.

Problem 1: they're blaming the SUV not the driver!
Problem 2: they fail to mention she was illegally crossing the street a block away from a crosswalk (you hear about that later in one of the "corrections" sections of the newspaper)

I don't get this obsession with blaming "things" for the actions of PEOPLE.

Everyone wants to blame someone or something else for societies problems today rather than taking any responsibility for their actions. If the mother bought the gun, video games are not to blame.

"Mom can I buy an AK-47?"
"Well what are you going to do with it?
"Um...shoot my eye out!"
"Ok then, is there a video game I can blame it on?"
"Well there is Counter Strike, but that doesn't really-"
"Okay good then just make sure no one else is behind you."

Of course they didn't say if this was Airsoft or real steel...I'm assuming since they didn't take any cheap shots it was real steel. Which is completely suprising..

Normally I would find the mention of CS offensive, but I assume they're the idiots who you usually see knifing and teammate while FF is on. So...

"Bachelder described an AK-47 as an assault weapon. "They are military guns, and you can hunt with it. It isn't any more or less deadly than any gun," said Bachelder."

Isn't It? So what you are saying is that a single shot .22 rifle is just as deadly as a military rifle, used by millions around the world because it is very reliable, capable of what...600 rpm, firing fully automatic 7.62mm x39mm bullets, capable of going through all but probably level 3 body armour.

Right.

It's always eeasier to believe that the problems in this world are not caused by ordinary people. you haev to find some oterh scapgoat, like games, so that the problems become something other then society. People cant handle normal people being the cause of problems. because if it is normal people, then who can you trust? They cant handle the fact that human's are not perfect beings. they cant understand that sometimes its not an external source that causes problems, no cure-all scapegoat to lay all your probelms on, sometimes its normal people. perhaps a person like you. maybe that last part is the part that scares them the most. They dont like the believe thier capable of doing anything wrong, of hurting anyone around them, and so they isolate somethign else to show thay they are immune, that nothing that ever goes wrong in thier life is thier fault.

Uh..no. That version of the gun is illegal. And seeing as how the mother isn't coming under any possession of illegal firearms charges, I'd say that she bought it legal. Semi-auto, and I believe a different caliber though I'd have to ask my friend. About the kid though...he's the kid that tk's at the beginning of every round with a glock, then stands there crouching and standing on top of you because he thinks it "looks funny". Then he camps out the round, when it's a 5 minute round, because he's too scared to get killed. Yah.
