Unfounded speculation about Bond 21
2004-01-29, 3:54 PM #1
Do you have any info on the next James Bond movie? Or do you have some ideas vaguely relating to James Bond that were products of a drug-induced stupor? Post them all! I'll start with a couple things that I know ARE true about Bond 21:

-Pierce Brosnan has signed on for another film.

-It's coming out in 2005.

-It will kick *** .

You seem really enthusiastic about a next film, when the last one was so incredibly dreadfully poor..

I thought Goldeneye was pretty good, actually. The ones after that got steadily worse from there, though. It feels like they're running out of plotlines.

Well, now its all action, unlike the old movies, where there was like 1 cool action sequence in each movie

I think you're all missing the point. After they exhausted the Fleming novels (even before actually) Bonds ceased to be about plot. They were about how much the car chases hauled *** , how hot the Bond girls were, and how many weirdo bad guys got killed in weird ways. Die Another Day had a weak plot, but that Aston Martin/Jaguar scene on the ice was probably the sweetest car chase ever.

Anyway, this is supposed to be speculation about Bond, not opinions on the quality of Bond movies. EVERYONE knows that the plots suck and that Brosnan is meh as Bond, but that shouldn't stop a Bond film. It never has before. As long as they don't make another Moonraker, I think we're okay.
2004-01-29, 4:28 PM #9
They aren't running out of plot quality (which none have really had, save the first few), but originality. It seems like watching the same thing over and over again.. except for the occasional switch of actor and addition of new villains and Bond girl.

But, anyway.. hopefully the new one'll add something to it.

GoldenEye kicked *** ! The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day had their moments, Tomorrow Never Dies just plain sucked.

Bond 21 will most likely feature the ultra-sexy Aston Martin DB9, which is also slated for release in 2005.

I've also heard rumors that Indian star Aishwarya Rai is in talks.

Brosnan was Bond for about 5 minutes at the beginning of Goldeneye... You remember, right after he dropped in, wacked the guy in the bathroom, and rounded the corner with PPK in hand? Yeah, right there. He was Bond. It was all downhill from there.

Sorry folks, but the Brosnan Bond movies are far better than the late Roger Moore movies. Have you seen Moonraker? Worst. Bond Moive. Ever.

I like bond as unrealistic as the stunts can be. Like in goldeneye he fell faster than the plane.

Anyway to put this on topic. I have a fact about bond 21 that I belive to be true. I belive it is brosnans last bond film. Pitty his ones owned.

I've never really seen the big deal behind the Bond movies...all the characters in the movies I've seen (only seen the Bronsan ones) have been so...boring.

Tell ya the truth, I enjoyed XXX more than any Bond film I've seen. They just have such little point..and the action in them doesn't grab my attention much.

The first couple (with Sean Connery) more story/less action driven. Might give those a shot.

Goldeneye was good. It tried to do the impossible task of justifying the comic element of Bond, and the way that events and characters don't follow on (the Bond women, for example). It did a pretty good job too.

Eg. Trevelyan's line - "Please James, spare me the Freud. I might as well ask if all the vodka martinis ever silence the screams of all the men you've killed. Or if you've found forgiveness in the arms of all those willing women, for all the dead ones you failed to protect."

Or the beach scene with Natalya;

Natalya: "This man...Trevelyan. He was your friend."

"Yes."

"And now he is your enemy and you will kill him. It is that simple."

"In a word; yes."

Blah blah blah...but then;

Natalya: "How can you do this? How can you be so cold?"

"It's what keeps me alive."

"No. It's what keeps you alone."

Granted, at that point he grabs her and has his way with her, but until that point it was almost...meaningful.

Did anyone see Pierce Brosnan on Punk'd? Now that was funny. I think Brosnan is by far the best Bond. He's not much good in anything else though. It's simply more difficult for me to relate to the older movies.

Just an interesting tidbit about Goldfinger, which was filmed 15 minutes from my house at Ft. Knox (we can hear the godforsaken firearms going off there day and night). My father was stationed there at the time and he said that all of the soldiers that you see falling down when the planes fly over, actually had to pay to get into the movie. He of course didn't pay.

Clive Owen doesn't have that James Bond look to him. Bond had to be classy and cool, He just doesn't look it.

Owen was the sniper assassin that Bourne killed with the shotgun in the middle of that field while he staying at that big house in the snow.
2004-01-30, 10:39 AM #33
I thought Hugh Jackman was going to be the next bond.

BTW have you seen Clive Owen in the BMW films...I think that's a close approximation of what kind of Bond he can be.

Did the Bond movies ever any awards? I always thought the movies were centered only on action with some twists in the plot (it's becoming too predictable with the whole good girl turning traitor though...).
2004-01-30, 3:48 PM #38
Sean Connery tops them all.

Moonraker was bad. It seemed as if slapped together in 2 weeks...and produced in that same amount of time.

The only award I am aware of for the Bond series was Best Special Effects for 1965's Thunderball.

Anyway, I agree that Hugh Jackman would suck as Bond. I think that Jason Isaacs would make a good 007, but I've heard no rumors that he's in the running. As a matter of fact, I don't think ANYONE's in the running yet, because they still have to get through 21, and the fact is Brosnan had originally said Die Another Day would be his last. He may yet do more (Roger Moore went to age 58, and had been threatening to quit since 1981 - he made his last one in 1985).

Anyway, the decision as to who will be the next Bond is usually made at the last minute (Sean Connery, Timothy Dalton). Who knows.
2004-01-30, 5:36 PM #40
Connery was a last minute pick because the producers originally wanted Roger Moore. Dalton got the Bond role in the 80s because Pierce Brosnan was comitted to a TV show at the time and couldn't do the movies.
