We need to know what's wrong before we can help.

When I go to run install.exe off of the CD I get an error that reads "An error occurred while trying to read the jedi.cfg file." So I figure I'll just copy all the files in the DARK folder to my HD. But now whenever I go to run dark.exe I get the error "ERROR:Unable to load LOCAL.MSG".

Doesn't Win2k not play DOS based games?

I just tried to run Dark Forces under Wine and DosEMU under Linux, and I got the same thing your getting.

Any other ideas? Is there a way to run on just DOS in Windows 2000? I'm not talking a command prompt window, I'm talking being able to boot up to nothing but DOS.

You can format your HDD and make a small dos partition (FAT16) and install dos on that... but Dark Forces works fine on Win2k on my PC. I just had to download a program to run the music.

He didnt. He installed it back in his DOS days, and merely copied over the binaries to his Win2k install. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/rolleyes.gif] [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Burn. Fast. In blue flames.

Anyway, I didn't have a problem. I stuck the CD in, and it installed easy as pie. Nothing to it, really?

To fix your problem, remove the "Read-only" attribute from the LOCAL.MSG file. You'll find the tahg by selecting "properties" when you right-click on the file. DF will now load, allowing you to work on getting sound.
