Can you believe these people? It seems like their site pops up when you try to go to a site that doesn't exist. (Like when you make a mistake typing the URL). In the old days, you used to get a simple 404, but now, I've had to reset my start page 6 times b/c Internet optimizer sets itself as the default page. I've also had fastsearch.cc do that too. I'm sick of these people.

Is there a way I can keep them from messing with my internet settings?

anything not related to IE is good. use mozilla, firebird, opera, netscape.

hell netscape 7.1 is pretty damn close to mozilla and opera.

anyway my preference is firebird cos its so fricking fast.

You need to do a google search to find out if that's a virus. And you need to keep your system patched and up to date. And you need to stop using Microsoft IE. Your problems will all be fixed, seriously.

You can also try getting Ad aware. I'm sure you can get that from www.download.com

If you have adaware do you still need spybot?

I have adaware at my dads and my uncle put spybot at my moms. She cant use it since its a little confusing but it seems to pick up more maybe its just her computer.

I've been fighting this problem all day, and i've finally gotten rid of it.

Internet explorer loads a page, but when it says "done" at the bottom, it crashes and I can only exit it by pressing CTRL+ALT-DEL a number of times until windows pops up the 'not responding window". I reinstalled IE6, but it changed nothing. I finally solved it by opening up system configuration and checked my windows startup files (since the problem persisted after several reboots.)

I found multiple instances of something called "CountrySelection" which uses a file entitled "pctppt.exe" (located in the windows directory. Apparently, this is what crippled Internet explorer.)

I have a shredder utility, so I ran pctppt.exe through there on government 3-pass shredding to be sure that it was gone. It apparently worked, for I can use IE again.

As for whoever created that program, they are lucky as hell that i don't know where they live, for I would beat them with an aluminum baseball bat until they were hemmoraging blood by the pint.
