So I got bored, and decided that I could install FreeBSD on my laptop. "NO" said FreeBSD as the bootCD repeatedly froze my laptop after reaching the ALi chipset section. "Debian it is" says I, and so I go about re-installing Debian. I've forgotten how crappy it is to unpack all of the packages just for GNOME and KDE to be up and running. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif] sadness.

The bright side to using Gentoo, however buggy it may be, is that there is a huge user base at http://forums.gentoo.org .

After all of the fighting I did with it, my debian disc had corrupted data towards the end of the install. I don't have broadband available at home, and didn't have the ISO anymore. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif] So I'm on RedHat9 again. Ah well. At any rate, can somebody give me a straightforward command to update the up2date system? I know you have to get a new cert, so I put the command in like this..

rpm -Fvh up2date-gnome-3.1.23.2-1.i386.rpm up2date-3.1.23.2-1.i386.rpm

is that right? It started by saying preparing, but then it went through one bar got to 100% went to the second bar, got to 50% and has now been sitting there. And I'm not seeing any activity.

If I did it right, how long should it take?

apparently it worked, I restarted out of desparation as the system started acting horribly sluggish. Afterwards, it just started working like a dream. The updates are flying in. Too bad RHN goes down in April. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]
