Firebird 0.8 is out...
2004-02-09, 7:08 AM #1
But wait, whats this? They changed the damn name again!

Check the Release notes. Ive been running a 0.8 nightly for awhile, its pretty sweet... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Why do they keep changing the name?

------------------
To artificial life, all reality is virtual.
2004-02-09, 7:12 AM #3
Why change the name?

To avoid overlap. The colloquial name "Firebird" is also in use by another open source project. While we don't believe our use of the Firebird name infringed on their trademark, we wanted to be responsive to the concerns of fellow open source developers.

Im running the official release now. Its fast - faster than the nightly I was using. Too bad the extensions server is hosed. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

They are catering to the furry audience.

I hate the name. I can no longer recommend this browser to *anyone*. Ever. That's it. It's doomed.

Can you prove it wasn't WinME sucking as usual? I didn't think so.

FireBi.. err fox may be awesome software, but it can't save WinME.

WinME has been running stably on my computer for weeks now, and FireFox crashed it. Which should conform to meet the requirements of the other: the software I had to pay for or the free stuff?

What's wrong with Phoenix? It's my name damnit. I personally would find it somewhat weird using a browser that has the same name as the alias I use online.

Happydud, WinMe causes WinMe to stop working. The OS is crap, it's beyond me how anyone can use the thing. I'll bet money that even if you never do a thing on a computer running WinMe other than boot it up and shut it down, it'll corrupt itself after awhile.

Yes, its the same one as the "Linux" version. You dont *have* to use debs in Lindows, tar.gzs should work just fine.

Whoa! I don't know how I ever lived without this Browser... it blows IE out of the water. Of course you all probably knew that... I'm just a bit of a skeptic when it comes to new browsers. I'd never been able to find one I liked before (that wasn't IE anyway) but now I have... and I don't think I will EVER return!

Why? The icons and graphics were created by some dude, problably in the GIMP. Its not source code, its entirely their right to restrict its use.
