Just saw this on tv.

Russian Prison Pop Idol, the winners of the competition automatically pass parole.

On the television, it mentioned one of the contestants was halfway through a sentence for murder.

Discuss.

did you read Septic's post?

The whole point of parole is that the prisoner is assessed to discover if it is no longer necessary to hold them, ie releasing them wouldn't be dangerous to other people. It kind of defeats the point of parole if people are automatically cleared based on vocal talent.

Well, perhaps it might encourage them to start a career in music. It'd show them that they have a talent for something other than crime, especially if they're in for robbery or something.
