Why must Hollywood twist my childhood into such bizarre new forms? I mean I'm not a -huge- fan of Battlestar Galactica but....

Cylons....rabid sexual desires.....riiiiiight. Gee this is going to be a big hit.

The "old" robot-dudes got air-time too, though I missed out on it. I never saw the original, but I'm catching part 1 about halfway through now, and my dad (who did see the original) seems to like it. I'm liking it anyway... /shrug

Aparently they wanted to give it a brand new feel. They've changed a bunch of other stuff too.

I caught part of it just now. Some big (at least it looked that way) space battle. My one gripe? I'm sorry, but missles do NOT leave smoking trails in space. Not like they showed. That plus there was noise in the void of space, but hell, everyone does that now. *sigh* That's one of the things I'll always like about 2001. The dead silence. All you hear is breathing in space suits.

I actually liked it better than the original ones.. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

It's not like they made it so all the Cylons were humanlike. It's just a few, she even said "The others still serve a purpose."

Oh, and the missles are some sort of ionized.. crystalized.. flux.. screen? /technobabble [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

There's absolutely nothing wrong with robosexualism... but there's just no way I can accept Starbuck being a woman.

it's in the "Rules for SciFi TV-Shows" that you must have tons of sex...
rule #4
"Thou shalt overuse sex as a selling point for thy tv-show!"

seriously, though...
it's the same thing that's killing Enterprise... there is no need for that much sex! *sigh*
what happened to scifi stuff being about the plot? the cool aliens? i don't mind romance in a story, in fact it's quite nice, but when the selling point of a show is sex i say "forget it"

[end rant]

I liked it alot. And yes, there was too much sex, just like Children of Dune, but it was still really good

I liked it alot. There was too much sex, just like children of dune, but all in all, it was really good. The new "Oversexualized Human Cylon Chick" Said that there were twelve of the "Human Cylons" so, they arent all oversexualized human cylon chicks. There are still the old cool looking cylons around, they are just the brutes/soldiers/pilots of the race

I don't know about Children of Dune, but there was a ton of sex in the original book too.
Baron Harkonnen and his male slaves, Baron Harkonnen and Mohiam, Leto and Jessica, Paul and Chani, etc. etc.

"missles do NOT leave smoking trails in space"

[technobabble]That would depend on the type of propulsion system used on the missile. If it is propelled by combustion as with conventional modern rockets, the resulting reaction would leave behind a trail as the fuel is ignited and turns into various gasses. (Obviously in space all of the "ingredients" would have to be stored on board the missile limiting its effective range.)[/technobabble]

I thought it was okay. I'm a few years too young to have watched the original show when it came out, and I only saw a few re-runs back in the early 90s. I can't say much in comparing the two, but I thought the plot seemed a bit thin. We don't find out why anything happens and no one seems to care. I can understand not necessarily finding everything out (it's only the first show), but none of the characters seem to care why anything happens. I dunno, maybe that's supposed to be the point. I also thought it could have used more intro backstory. Maybe if I had seen the original show it would make more sense.

Character development was pretty good though. It's the usual cliche relationships, but they were done well enough. In general, there was better character acting in BG than in two certain Star Wars movies I know of.

And I want more space battles!

I watched reruns of the original a few years ago. I liked it alot, if nothing else just for the effects.
just from the previews I know the effect in this one will be incredibly overused CG just like the new SW.

As they said int he article, the deal with the original makers fell through so they just tried to make everyone beside the fans happy.
Starbuck is girl to please the feminists and they filled it with sex because, as Is_907 pointed out, it's the law in hollywood and soon will be amended to the constitution that all forms of media must fill a quota of overtly sexual content each year.

Anyway, for those who want more space battles, watch it tonight. Last night was more of a set up story, tonight is the conclusion. (I think it's only 2 parts)

Wait so this is a remake? Was the original one good? If the original one was good, why do a remake? I would kill the person that would try to remake the classic Star Wars Trilogy....
