Neuromancer by William Gibson
This book appears to have been a major influence on the Wachowski brothers when making the Matrix. It was written in 1984, and has people plugging their minds into a matrix, there's an underlying theme, questioning reality and there's even a kind of safe haven on a space station called Zion, populated almost entirely by dread-locked Rastas! There's a bunch of other links to the Matix but that would spoil the book for anyone else.

It sounds like the Wachowskis did a direct ripoff of this book, but changed enough things to keep from getting sued.

New Spring by Robert Jordan (the prequel to The Wheel of Time). I've read the rest of the series and am eagerly awaiting the next books.

After I finish this book, I'll be back to reading The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind (I'll be on Faith of the Fallen which is book 6).

I won't bore you by posting what I'm reading in school.

Planescape: Torment

EDIT: And that's not really reading a 'book', but it sure feels like one.

I'm rereading the Narina chronicles right now. For like the fourth time. Love those books.

He has scaled the mountains of ignorance; he is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries."

I just started Path of Daggers by Robert Jordan last night. Unfortunately, I was quite tired, and fell asleep before finishing the prologue.

My opinion of Robert Jordan's writing steadily decreased as the series progressed.. around like book 6 or 7 it was still quite good i think. But after that it just became repetitive and irritating. And how he kept freaking re-using the same damn phrases over and over, like i about started lighting things on fire with how like in.. 9? /every/ freaking time he mentioned Vandin it was 'he sat his saddle like a sack of suet'.. GAH.

And his outlines seem to run something like this anymore:

1: Three Mouseketeer Feminazis sit around and ***** about how stupid men are but why the need to marry lots of them right away
2: Naked Women For No Apparent Reason
3: Vandin, like a sack of suet.
4: see 1
5: see 2
6: The Boyz sit around and talk about how stupid women are but why they need to shag lots of them right away
7: The Boyz sit around thoroughly whipped weeping over their naked woman mouseketeer feminazi wife/girlfriend/friend-with-benefits got taken by the aiel/trollocs/democrats and is probably currently Naked [see 2]
8: Aes Sedai sit around having mutual back-patting parties about how sneaky and Illuminatoid they are. [insert much paleo-Freudian repression and man-hating here]
9: See 1
10: Asha'man sit around having mutual back-patting parties about how much of bad-*** mofos they are and how the Aes Sedai are nothing but spoiled brats and how pimp and fly they look in black. [insert much paleo-Freudian repression and woman-hating here]
11: Cool aiel interlude.
12: See 2
13: See 1
14: See 1 and 2
15: Verin is still cool.
16: Dark One summons people to his sekrit lair designed by a crack team of Martha Stewart and Van Gogh clones, only to regale them with fuzzy dog jokes and ask them in all-caps: "DO YOU THINK I SOUND LIKE JAMES EARL JONES?"

And so forth.. covering the last several books so far.

Don't be deluded by any other endings, they're all fake, with malicious intent to deceive, or just motivated by excessive optimism if not by downright sentimentality. The only authentic ending is the one provided here: John and Mary die. John and Mary die. John and Mary die." -Happy Endings [Margeret Atwood]

Just buy the DelRay short story collections off of Amazon. Believe me, it's worth it.

What I have read:

Game Design: Secrets of the Sages edited by Marc Saltzman

Game Design Perspectives edited by Francois Dominic Laramee

What I am currently reading:

Get in the Game! Careers in the Gaming Industry by Marc Mencher

What I will be reading:

Game Creation and Careers: Insider Secrets from Industry Experts edited by Marc Saltzman (yes, this is a newer one of the first listed, I'm pretty sure).

I'd throw down "Chronicles" from the Bible, texts for school and ISB-related stuff, but my list is pretty odd as it is.

I'd love to, but unfortunately I'm strapped for cash. Therefore, free book borrowing is the way to go.
