Is there anything like Litestep for Linux?
2004-02-18, 8:52 AM #1
I want to trick out my GUI to the point where it's all pretty like my windows desktop is after Litestep gets ahold of it. The plain old taskbar at the bottom blah blah blah is kind of boring. I want this thing to have transparancy effects and system monitors in seperate modules etc. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif] Is there anything??

You dont need Litestep on Linux. KDE can be configured any way you want. And yes, you could even get it to look like your old Litestep desktop, with a bit of effort.

just browse Freshmeat.net for skins under every DE until you find one like that
then get that wm and de then the skin and you're set.

(btw, i'd reccomend Enlightenment or Blackbox over KDE)

See, but what you're missing is I don't want to do the effort part. I understand coding in Litestep, and it's not the same with Linux themes I'm sure. The majority of the themes that I've found for Linux are just variations / gradients to the standard bottom task bar, or OSX copycats... I want something much more substantial. I don't want icons, I want a right click access menu, and I want to have an aplication launcher like the one you see in the top left of the litestep theme. I don't need it to all *look* like that necessarily, but I do want it to be more candy than I've found..

You want Enlightenment.

Yes, Enlightenment. I dont like it, personally, but it should fit you like a glove.

I just switched to KDE...

... I love it. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/redface.gif]

Yes, KDE is quite good once you get it tweaked out a bit. I wish they'd change the way Konqueror renders HTML though - I always end up having to emerge Firebird/Firefox, even though I'd much rather use the integrated component. Increasing the font size sometimes screws up the layout. Sigh [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]
