I knew it was fast, but...

...I had no idea it was this fast! I just built a computer from scratch, and the performance boost over my old computer is amazing. The the most interesting thing is that most games are much faster even though I have the same graphics card as I did before! Here are the UT2k3 benchmarks:
-----------
1024x768
Flyby: 132 FPS
Botmatch: 62 FPS
----------

Here is what I upgraded.

New stuff:
  • Intel D875PBZ mobo
  • Intel P4 2.6 GHz 800 FSB with HT
  • 2 sticks of dual channel 512mb PC-3200 DDR SDRAM @ 400 MHz each

Old stuff:
  • Geforce 4 TI 4200 (Soon will be a Radeon 9700 pro)
  • Sound Blaster Audigy
  • Creative Inspire 5300 5.1 speakers (crap but cheap)
  • All my old drives

I used to have a crappy motherboard, crapy memory, and a Pentium 4 1.5GHz 400MHz FSb.

I'll post the 1600x1200 results next, but I suspect a huge performance drop because I only have a geforce 4 TI 4200 64mb. But I was only able to pull off about half the performance before the upgrade... w00t! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

It's (amazingly) still playable, but a signifigant drop in speed.

Sorry Flex, my neighbor's getting the chip... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

I'd be happy running it at 640x480 with 30 fps and detail on medium.

I think the bottom line is that your graphics card is not necessarily more important than your board, chip, and your memory.

All depends on the game. UT2K3 from what I'm told is a very CPU intensive game.

My stats:
AMD Athlon XP 2400+

I'll run a full out test in a minute. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Well here is where the difference really shines:

Probably one of the biggest things that helped you was that increase to a gig of memory, plus the bandwidth increase from the dual DDR.

Why does the bot match never seem to be capped at 60 fps?

Edit: Just you wait Cool Matty until I get my hands on a Radeon 9800 pro! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]
