Nah, you'd obviously have to bike it. I don't know where the dog would go, but who needs a dog when you have a shotgun?

Sorry Tracer, but that site specifically says no more pets. The food that usually goes to feed them will need to go to the survivors.

Don't dismiss something on the basis that it's been mentioned before. Just because it's been in the news once doesn't mean it's resolved. Some things are worth repeating and I think the cause of our species' near extinction is probably one of them.

Well OF COURSE we're gonna run out of oil.

It's not like it's a renewable resource or anything, or like there's any sort of conservation effort going.

Is it going to cause the end of the world, though? No.

We know how to get electricity without burning oil already, it's not like it's some brand new concept.

It'll just be "Oh darn, bust out the hydroelectricity," not "Ohs**ts, we're all gonna die!"

Actually Masq, GBK brings up a point that beats out yours and overshadows mine.

It's not like we don't know how to live without plastic.

Hell, make everything out of metal, wood, or glass like we used to.

Fertilizer? It's called cow s**t. Use it.

This just made me realize - when we run out of oil, the Amish are gonna take over the world. What's oil to the Amish? A little extra light at night... wait, do they even do oil lamps or is it just candles? Either way, that's my prediction.

We already have many ways to create power besides oil, its just that at this time, they are either not perfected or oil is cheaper. case in point: Nuclear power plants. they provide far more power then oil, and a heck of alot cleaner, its just that oil is cheaper at the moment.

Anouther way, expecially for cars, is the Fuel cells that are very, very close to completion. all we really need to do now is find a good way to supply the hydrogen affectivly and a good way to store the hydrogen in the cars (they have to have very strong protection while still packing enough in the car to have enough fuel for a long trip). Both of these problems are pretty close to being solved.

yeah, i wouldn't like to total a car packing a huge load of hydrogen.

i remember when i was in turkey, a friend who lived out there sent his car to italy to get this large gas canister installed in the boot of the car. he went to this dark little pump behind the real petrol station and filled it with some sort of gas... he said it was about 4 times cheaper than petrol was. god knows what it was.

Probably natural gas.

The big problem with nuclear power isn't the cost so much as the waste. Wind and solar are viable, but the cost is still too high for it to be used widely.

i agree with the people on this thread who think that article is bs. i mean honestly, look at china, their population was huge and the larger portion of it was under the poverty line n they're still alive. if any part of the world is going to fall apart, it'll be north america, and europe alittle. as for like most of the third world, they be chillin. and so what if oil completely runs out, we'll use hydro. obviously hydro is harder to produce and will take longer to harvest as much energy as it woulda been, but atleast we'll have something for basics. the worlds population doesnt die when theres a power outage does it?

Who ever said we have to get our oil from the ground? Ever heard of thermal depolymerization?

These guys build refineries that turn waste into useable oil. It's pretty cool.

i was gonan say it's not like we can't make oil for our industry still. It just means alot more OIL producing refineries and alot more Plants to produce electricity.

We still have alot of Hydro power to use too. The Missippi River could provide a lot or power, and hell if we were ambitious enough we would build a massive ring of solar panels around the earth [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]
