Yeah, I know something about this was posted a while ago, but I don't recall any real details mentioned so I thought I'd share some information Nintendo have released that was published in a gaming magazine I get.
Comments? Seems like Nintendo will have to do a lot of hard work to get the DS off the ground, as I don't think many developers will want to take a risk on yet another platform.

"This hole is octogo. Ogiganeel. It's Octa.. It's got eight sides."
"We interrupt this program again, A. to annoy you, and B. to provide work for one of our announcers."
- Not a successor to either GBA or GC, rather it's a "third pillar" to both.
- Two three inch back-lit screens.
- Rechargeable battery, like the SP
- Two separate processors made by a company called ARM (who made the GBA's processor). The first processor is based on "ARM9 architecture" - clocking in at 200 MHz. The second is based on "ARM7", capable of 85 MHz. To compare, the GBA's runs at 16.8 MHz.
- Games will not come on cartridges, but on thin memory cards resembling sim cards.
- Nintendo have a working unit, but the exterior design is still being finalised.
- Nintendo are aiming for a simultaneous worldwide release by the end 2004.

Nintendo, as always, are quietly confident. In a recent interview, Iwata claimed that he'd be happy if only 10% of people understood DS, and happy to rely on word of mouth to drive enthusiasm for the system.
