The Pixies

This is old news, but for the people who don't know, The Pixies have officially reunited!
Plenty of info here: http://www.frankblack.net/news/

Even older news, but they're also releasing a dvd. Among other great stuff, it'll have interviews with Bono and David Bowie!

Anyone here planning to see them if they come to your area?

This is very cool news. I've only now being getting into the Pixies' stuff, but I like what I've heard so far. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Would I see them live? Depends on the cost, I suppose.

Perhaps it's on an abstract plane.

Surfer Rosa, Doolittle, and Trompe Le Monde are all fantastic albums. I'm sure Come On Pilgrim and Bossanova are too, but I don't have those. Doolittle is the one that appears on the "best album ever" lists, but it's my least favorite. I do like it a lot though, especially since even though I got Surfer Rosa first, I didn't like it until after I heard Doolittle.
If you're into downloading music, some great songs of theirs are Bone Machine, Gigantic, River Euphrates, Debaser, Monkey's Gone To Heaven, and Head On (a Jesus and Mary Chain cover).

To everyone who doesn't listen to the Pixies, you should. You don't have to take my word for it. They've received much praise from Kurt Cobain, Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead, Bono, David Bowie, and plenty of other people.

Which one would you recommend buying first, then?

I guess I'd recommend buying Doolittle first.
A lot of people really like it, it's just my opinion that it's not as good as the rest.

I haven't heard of this band. Do they actually play bossas?

Shut up. I'm GOING to do this whether you like it or not.

Surfa Rosa/C'mon Pilgrim come on the same disc nowadays, its a great cd, i bought that and Doolittle, quite a while ago.

To be honest, i prefer surfa rosa/pilgrim over doolittle, but they're both awesome.

Tracer, you've probobly heard them before. Ever see fight club? They play that song that plays at the end when the buildings are being destroyed.

Anywho, them reuniting is great, they're one of my favorite bands.

Tracer: You're the guy that always talks about jazz, right?
If you are, I dunno if The Pixies would be to your taste. I don't think they play bossas either (I don't even know what they are)

The closeness I can come to describing them is the energey and sloppiness of punk combined with the pop sensibilites of The Beach Boys. The lyrics are a combination of theology, ufos, and sex.

Plenty of info is here
