Does this (SW) game exist?

I'm way out of touch with new games..maybe something has come out (probably not)..

Something like a cross between X-Wing Alliance and Rogue Squadron (ie simulation style, but a variety of ground/space)..and more of a simulation than arcade..

I doubt it's around, but hey..it's worth asking..

Rogue Squadron lets you fly around the ground, but you can't go up...XWing Alliance lets you fly around in space, but you can't reach a planet..and graphics on both are quite outdated.

The closest you'll get is Rebel Assault and Rebel Assault 2, which have fps style missions, ground-air combat, and space combat. But they are arcade style games, not simulations.

A game that could also be Shadows of the Empire, though it has more of these FPS-like missions than the combat things (Battle of Hoth, Asteroid Field, Skyhook Battle...).

But I'd also say Rebel Assault / II.

Well, Starfighter is still more of a Rogue Squadron game than a X-Wing one.

(Nym rocks tho')

I have Jedi Starfighter for PS2, and it sounds just like that (space and ground battles).

A TIE Fighter-style game that allows you to fly in a planet's atmosphere would kick *** , but I think it'd be very very difficult to do. There would have to be a way to limit where on the planet the player can go.
A desperate disease requires a dangerous remedy.

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.

Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

What about that SW game you find in arcades? Where you pick what 'movie' you want to play in, and you try and win? Like, ANH is the battle of yavin, ESB is a rebal assult kind of thing, and ROTJ is the battle of endor (I think...)

I just remembered, that X-Wing did have the Death Star levels... was anyone ever able to reach the edge of that level?

I'm not *quite* sure, being as the last time I played this game was about 3 years ago, but I think you would eventually explode or your shields would go down if you went to far up, the same thing might have happened if you tried to reach the edge. I don't think this was caused by enemy fire, but either way you'd probably get blown up, there were so many TIE fighters in that level.

That game is amazing. It was actually planned that it was supposed to come out for DreamCast, but LucasArts never followed up.

On Rogue Squadron if you go too far it turns your ship around.

One of the main difficulties IMO is scale. Planets are ****ing huge. Like seriously. In the films it all looks well and good, and you don't question the fact that they just fly down to the surface. What you play on a surface level is tiny compared to the actual size of the planet. Plus you need to consider gravity. When you're on a planet surface game (e.g. Rogue Squadron), down is towards the planet, and if you have auto roll on then you'll right yourself so the surface is down and the sky is up. In space games (e.g. XWA) there is no up or down. It would begin to get very messy to code and pilot if you were to join the two, plus it would be a massive distance from the space battle to on the planet's surface. A game where you had different levels in different styles would be possible and quite fun though.

You could fight in a space battle, then pursue a transport which escaped to the planet's surface from the fight, then get down on foot to pursue the survivors when you shoot the shuttle down. Kinda like Wraith Squadron.

In conclusion, Wraith Squadron would make a good game!

Five or ten years ago, KOTOR probably would've been messy to code too, eh? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

I was just reading PC Gamer today (actually found it in the break room at work..miracles happen!)..I can't remember the name of it, but they reviewed a new SW MP game that handles up to 64 players...ground troops, AT-ATs, speeders..starfighters, etc..it looks quite interesting.

I'm getting annoyed with Rogue Squadron..only on level six or something (destroy ATAT/ATST yards), and I'm having a rough time..which isn't nice. I'm usually good at that stuff. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]
