Hey, ****ing geniuses, YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE THE AVATARS. THERE WILL BE AN OPTION FOR THEM. THERE IS NO NEED TO WHINE ABOUT THEM. IF YOU DON'T LIKE THEM, THEN DON'T USE THEM. PLEASE ALLOW THE REST OF US THAT WOULD LIKE TO USE THEM TO DO SO, as it will not affect you in the least.

Ok, I've decided I don't want avatars anymore.

That's not true, because massassi *already* had them once, back in the day when I was SDO_CDT_D5Z... nobody even knows that SN. O well. I remember because this one guy had a pic that was like 600x600 in his sig.

Clean it. (Or hit the guy next to you with it... whatever's more fun.)

So is the word "member" under your SN, yet I see nobody complaining about it.

Actually, it will. It means I have to wait for lots of little pictures to load and I have to look at them over and over again.

I don't want to do that.

Not if viewing them is optional.

Hmm.. brian's guidelines look great to me. As for sig pics, i used to belong to a JK clan that used them, and i made a really good one for it, my best work in photoshop (really not that good, but good for me), but i dont really think they'd work for massassi. while avatars wouldn't cause bandwidth problems, sigs definitly would, and avatars can lend the same amount of individuality.

As a 56k user at home, I can quite honestly say avatars don't take that long to load, especially if properly implemented.

Ditto. I think avatars are cool.

There was a site I used to visit frequently before it went down due to lack of support (much like Massassi?). It was an Aliens vs. Predator game site, which supported, obviously, the original Aliens vs. Predator Gold Edition. Anyways, in their forum they allowed evolutionary avatars. Everyone who registered started out as a "Facehugger Egg", then after so many posts (I think 100), the avatar changed to a facehugger. Then after a bunch more posts (200-300 or so), it changed to a chestburster, and so on. I'm sure you get the idea. After an insane amount of postings, you get the Alien Queen avatar. But it doesn't stop there. If you happen to be a frequent poster, a custom avatar would be made available. Meaning you get to get a custom avatar, or even make one up yourself. Cool huh?

It's just an idea.

That would encourage spamming, though. I like the Weebl Forums (Content Warning!) system of allowing members to award each other "points" for making good posts (you can only award one per post, though). Say you post a good map in the Showcase forum--everyone who likes it awards you a point, so you end up with a whole bunch. You can spend points in the "store" to buy special actions, like "get an avatar." The really expensive ones have things like "change another member's signature." You'd be annoyed buy some little picture smaller in width than most people's screen name? Please... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/rolleyes.gif]
If you get annoyed so easily, I recommend some anger management classes. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Lets just say the mods/admins have the right to ask you to change your icon if they feel it stands out too much or is too obnoxious. It's no different than them asking people to shorten their sigs.
