Online Manual

I know this belongs in the Galaxies forums, but no body goes there anymore form what I've seen. Besides, I won't get unbiased opinions in the Galaxies forum.

Now, I have some extra money and I really like playing KotOR, but the lack of human interaction seriously takes away form it for me. So, I decided that maybe I should get Galaxies. Okay, first I want to know a few things.

1)Is it really worth the money?
2)Is it worth it to join now? As in, is it dieing?
3)Do they let you pay with paypal accounts?
4)Does anyone know where I can find an online or acrobat manual for the game, just to see if it sound good to me? This is the most important question.

I bought Ultima Online years ago and I got burned by that(I was grounded at the time, didn't have money, and my free month ran out) and I would try it again but I don't want to get the new Ultima Online software. So, I'm a little bit wary about Galaxies.

oh, and one more question.

5) If i do get the game, would anyone be willing to take me under their wing and show me the ropes? I'll be loyal. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

From what I have heard, stay away. You would do better with a lot of the other MMORPG's. I hear nothing but praise of FFXI Online or whatever it is. I don't play it myself, but it did spread around the forums for WWII Online. www.wwiionline.com That is what I play, but I don't think it is what you are looking for. But yea, recommend you look at FFXI.

3. No.
4. No.
5. I'm not in the game anymore, so.. No. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Evad still is though, if you decide to get it despite all my no's.

Wait for WoW. They have the most mindbogglingly epic and heroic massively multiplayer eyebrows of all time..
I fully expect them to have advanced browbeating skills and double-handed eyebrow proficiencies..

Galaxies stinks. And dont let any online manual fool you, the game sounds really cool on paper, it's the insanely unbalanced and unpolished buggy-as-hell execution that makes it stink.

Actually if you've still got your UO cd, you can play on free UO shards. The biggest one is In Por Ylem, has between 1000 and 1400 people on at any one time and heaps of pvp. Uses the old '99 ruleset, I'm about to try and round up all my grubby uo mates and head over there.

edit- Planetside sounds awesome, but I've heard good/bad things about it. I've never tried it as all the servers are in the US, but you can download 7 day trial versions.

I don't play Galaxies, but from what I hear here and other places, I think you should stay away from it. There are better MMORPGs out there, and like Dormouse said, wait for World of Warcraft. I think it's going to be one of the best MMORPGs ever.

Ghorg: does '99 rule set mean UO Renassiance?

no, pre-renaissance

a renaissance CD will still work though, any UO cd will.

with UO:R they brought in the trammel/felucia thing which essentially turned UO from the big head-kicking bash-up that it was, into a carebear everquest style game, where if you didn't want people chasing you around with bomby-knockers, you could hide in the trammel zone. Game went downhill after that.(oh, pre-UO:R does have some non-pvp zones, but it's not one BIG non-pvp zone like trammel.)

edit- hehe read this about shadowbane a while back:
Quote:
<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Shadowbane also failed on its attempt to deliver good town vs. town combat because of some of the crappiest game design ever, which totally disregards everything we know about the way people play; they are lazy. Why would a guild spend the time and effort to raid a town while the defending towns’ guild members are online? Well, they don’t. They raid the town at 4am. The next day you log into 7 protected buildings, and a ****load of rubble.</font>

well, my version is old as hell, the patching takes at least more than half an hour(i stopped it), and the create account thing doesn't like my CD-key. It would be easier to just buy the latest version.

Edit: Oh, and I lost my manual

You can download the UO cd off the net(legally), but it sounds like you're on dialup anyway...

You're trying to log on to OSI if there's something about an account

http://www.wtfman.com/shard/
that's the shard website

you need to patch I'm afraid. after that, there are two ways to connect. UOGateway and manually.

UOGateway; download UOG off the shard's site, run it and select "In Por Ylem" shard on the left. Manually; open login.cfg and replace everything with:
Code:
; login.cfg
LoginServer=64.31.131.201,2593

Then run client.exe
Do this after patching though, or everything will go to pot.

type any username/password in and it'll be automatically created(if you've done everything so far correct).

if you get on, I'll give you some stuff and try and tell you where everything is etc, but atm I'm just starting on this shard.

The manual tells you nothing, believe me. www.stratics.com has a lot, but you've got to filter out the old info(which is applicable) from the new stuff(which isn't).

Myself, I perfer FFXI. The game is really balanced, and updates are guaranteed 1-2 months. (Of course there are little things, like holiday events, and patches inbetween, but there are huge, great changes during every large update.) If you don't like waiting for large patch downloads, though, you might want to avoid FFXI. The initial patch phase when you first start the game can take nearly 6 hours on a 56K. So do it at nite, or go get broadband. I do have to say that once you ARE ingame, there is no lag whatsoever. The entire game is designed around a 56K playing experience. And it uses a smart bandwith system. If you get a lag spike and your bandwith drops, the game will make sure the important packets get through, mainly your commands and your status. So if you are dying, you can do something about it. Not to mention the game doesn't require anything more than a 3 year old system to play the game.
However, before you spend the bucks to get it, try that UO Shards he was mentioning. Because no matter what anyone may say, FREE IS GOOD.
