Generally wax.

I personally hate blocked ears...and since i was told not to put anything in my ear except my elbow (ie nothing), I dont put anything in there.

Allegedly, earwigs will crawl inside someone's ear, eat through the eardrum, and live in their ear.

I don't know if they eat on anything while they're in there, but the noise is supposed to drive people mad and make them kill themselves and everyone else in an insane rage.
