Story Board revamp?
2004-02-27, 1:48 PM #1
First off, yes, this applies to everyone :P

While I am content with the current status of the Interactive Story Board (ISB), I'd like to continue to try and foster its growth and potential. With all the talk of revamping the Massassi Temple, I talked with Brian about the following on #massassi:

Quote:
<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2"><Gebohq> well, if amongst the Massassi fun you decide to do that whole "sub sites" bit, I could most definately contribute to some sort of story/storyboarding subsite. you have tutorials on level building and code and models... why not that? that's my cheap justification anyway if you wanted one [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

<Brian> Gebohq: how many people actively post on the isb?

<Gebohq> hmm... that's a good question. lemme think (though if you want a short answer, it's not that many :/)

<Brian> well, maybe people aren't interested in allowing others to post on their work, so a place to post their own stories would be cool

<Brian> esp. if others could do illustrations and stuff for them (just for fun) - we have a lot of good artists on massassi

<Gebohq> hey -- I never felt the "interactive" part was all-necessary

<Gebohq> but most people tend to post that sort of thing on the showcase forum

<Brian> yeah, odd

<Brian> we could really go somewhere with the stories/artwork

<Gebohq> well, taking the last 3 threads (NeS, life at the massassi temple, and spooky taco), I'd take a rough stab at about 15-20 active members. now "active" is pretty vague, since the ISB tends to run slower in general, but at least for me, that's not too shabby of a number, especially considering a number of them aren't even ISB hermits

<Bri|Food> Gebohq: cool. I bet there are a lot more that would contribute stories/poems/etc. if it ws in a more formal setting (like a writing section of massassi)</font>

Considering the above, I pose this question (and a less-important question with it):

1) Would you all be interested if the ISB were changed into a more "formal" setting, where any work of pros and poetry would be included and open to feedback if the author wished it? As Brian suggested, artwork and such relating to such written works could be included as well.

2) If Massassi were to adapt parallel sites as suggested in The State of Massassi thread, do you all think that instead of the sub-sites covering other games of interest, they might cover steps of game development, such as level creation, model building, code, and story/concept work as I first brought up?

With the second question in mind, I also wish to ask you all your thoughts on my thoughts of contributing in other manners to Massassi:

Quote:
<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">]<Gebohq> I'd go do a good rant about game design theory -- been doing enough independant research on it, but I dunno how pertinant that sort of stuff would be, especially since I've never actually put out my own levels or models or even a calculator game or some crap. just a bunch of words and sketches. not much credibility :/</font>

Obviously I need not be the only one contributing such articles, but if we had enough of them by Massassians, they could be included in the hypotetical "story/concept" sub-site of Massassi much like tutorials.

Any and all thoughts on the subjects would be much appreciated [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I'd post in the ISB, but I don't want to read all that NeS!! (I want to, but so many pages!) If someone would just start a NEW story, or if it were just for general writing, Hell yes I would post.

SAJN: NeS has actually just gone into its second iteration, so if you wanted to jump into a great comedy without reading a novel's worth of back-story (and a thick novel at that!), now is most definately the time.

Oh look a bird....

No, but I think I will read. Someday I REALLY want to read the entire NeS. From what I have read it's really well written, funny etc.. Congrats and keep up the awesome work. You should write your own Action/Adventure Comedies [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Not to mention there are quite a number of other things besides NeS on the ISB (*gasp* For real?). Here's a few of the newer ones:

A Knight's Tail started by DrkJedi82

life in the massassi temple started by alpha1

Mythos Solias started by Highemperor

There are also a lot of incompleted stories lying around on the ISB that anybody could pick up on. I do what I can to shed light on other ISB threads via the "featured story" part of my signature.

But that's just the current ISB status-stuff. I'd like to know your thoughts on the suggestions Brian and I thought up on [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I'm having trouble paying close attention and read what you wrote (I don't know why, it's not your fault though). However, after reading it 4 times, I THINK I kinda understand what's going on. So, my response? Go for it. I have no problems with it.

As a final note, I demand that everyone read Life in the Massassi Temple. It gets good around page two. It should be better if I can EVER find the time to make the post required to finish it.

Hmmm, looks cool, I could definitely see a sort of co-habitation of screwy threads like the NES and more formal prose and such.

Not that these posts have made me think otherwise, but perhaps I should try and simplify what I was asking for clarity anyway:

1) Would you all like the ISB to expand to accept all written works, interactive or not, and possibly artwork relating to such?

2) Would you like the idea of the main Massassi sections being broken down into parts of game design/creation, such as level design, model design, and concept design, where in such could have "tutorials" or essays on such by Massassians on those fields much like tutorials for JED, instead of breaking down into several specific games to cover?

The first question is what I, as moderator of the ISB, am mostly interested in, though the second could help out a great deal in concern to The State of Massassi thread.

Geb's Revised/Simplified proposals:

1) I fervently agree. (Is that how you spell fervently? Or is it ferverently? Or something else? I wish I knew... and wasn't too lazy to look it up...)

2) I've looked deep into my heart for an answer to this one, only to find -- I have no opinion one way or the other. It's weird. I must be sleepy or something.

!)I've actually only looked in the ISB once, but it sems like something i may like to do, if i could get into a story. Does one jsut start posting sections of a story? or is there some formal welcoming?

2)i think that would be interesting, but i cant see how well it would work. in otehr words, i dont really have an opinion, but i'll say go for it anyway. it may turn out good.

Well, not much I can do on my own, of course, but I'll pass the word along, and hopefully those who can make the changes around these parts will take this into consideration. Also...
