Did anyone see this browser?

I haven't seen this posted here (unless I was blind), so I just wanted to see what you Massassians thought of this alternate browser.

No, I'm not talking about the Firebird one, which I've heard nothing but great stuff about it (I'll probably install it today).

I was talking about the MyIE, here's the Official Site. I've read up on it and it has a few features the regular IE doesn't have, like skinnable features, more control over other, more advanced options, etc. I dunno, if anyone is using it, let us know how it is...

It takes lots of the good things in Firefox, and tacks IE's crappy things onto it. Like, it's rendering engine, popups (Probably has a popup blocker, but nothing beats Firefox for it.), crashing, etc.

It's a nice concept, I heard about it on TechTV's Call for Help a while ago. However, I love my Firefox.

I use it, and it hardly crashes. I like it, but I still like Firefox more. Although, MyIE is already compatabile with all your existing plugins, where with Firefox you have to re download them. Or I'm just too lazy to look around for options.

I used it, but it took too much power, the password bot thing didn't work and was annoying, and i just didn't like the feel of it. In my opinion, Opera beats it hands down.

IE is doing fine for me. I wouldnt even think about using another browser.

The main reasons to use a non-IE based browser are stability, pop up blocking (Mozilla based seems to be the best at this), and best of all, no spyware and self-installing porn dialers.

IE never crashes (for me), google toolbar, unless you spend alot of time on spyware and porn dialer infested sites... in which case I dont see how Mozilla would help any.

My parents have the google toolbar installed (supposedly to block popups) and it only appeared to block about 90% of popups. The ones it let through were of course the most annoying ones (probably because people went out of their way to make them go through the google toolbar). I prefer opera still.

It also seems that Google toolbar blocks wanted popups, where Firefox does not. It also takes up precious screen space, and I get the same function in Firefox by just typing in my query into the address bar.

You can hide most of the google toolbar...

Anyway, yet again I must tell my tale of how within 15 seconds of installing Firefox I had two problems that couldn't be solved even by uninstalling, deleting all registry references and reinstalling. There is no way i'm reinstalling my OS just to use Firefox (before anyone suggests it).

In conclusion: Firefox isn't stable [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Let me guess, you didn't try to solve the problems?

(and were they user-induced or out-of-the-box)

Det, FireFox's settings arent stored in the registry. They are stored in your user profile. Delete the profile, or use the profile manager to create a new one.

And for crying out loud, dont let one bad experiance scare you away.

problem 1) I have a permanent empty sidebar Which can only be removed by turning on a different sidebar then deactivating it, empty sidebar returns whenever I reload Firefox regardless of whether it's there when I close it.

problem 2) If I try to customise the toolbar and make ANY changes, the file/edit/view...etc menu is greyed out until I close and reload the program.

Where are the user profiles stored? If it's in the Firefox directory, then it won't be a solution since I deleted all those files at the same time as messing with the registry.

I gave Firebird plenty of chances, I just don't like it, it has a bad interface. I downloaded Firefox in the hope they might have improved things, all I found was bugs that weren't there before.

Popup blocking is all well and good, but NetCaptor does Ad Blocking so I only see a little blue "Recon Gamer" box at the top of every screen of Massassi. No huge "NEW DEDICATED HALF-LIFE SERVERS THAT AREN'T NEW ANYMORE!!!"

I don't even get the blue box [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif] Or popups.. Norton Internet Security + Google Toolbar = pretty lethal combination on the ad blocking front.

But you also have to deal with the horrible hassle of updating that is using NIS. Want to update a game? Have to disable it, 9 times out of 10 even if the game is in the "allow" list. Any program that requests a connection to the net is denied. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

The Norton utilities are a terrible system hog. The AV might be good, but the rest sucks noodles. Rotten noodles that brewed in a vat of bile for centuries. Noodles that have been partially shewed, spit out,and stepped on. Noodles that have been left and forgotten by society.

Docs & settings/%%USERNAME%%/Application data/Firefox/(some ramdom string)/

Delete the directory named with the random string in the Firefox dir....

Not really.. the program uses about 20mb of memory.. which is ~6mb more than the antivirus alone.

What exactly does NIS do that a properly configured system and a proper browser|mail client cannot do?
