Good questions. I don't understand a few of them, but the rest are good.

Too bad Edwards isn't going to get the nomination. I voted for him in the primaries too. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

And Kerry is the quintessential politician. I can't for the life of me understand why any sane democrat would vote for someone as dishonest as him.

Some good questions, some bad ones.

George F. Will, the pinnacle of the "Liberal" media... Har har har...

As far as central interests, I believe Kerry is using liberal-speak. (He recognizes that he cannot touch the conservatives, just as Bush cannot hope to turn the liberals). I believe he is referring to "Big Business". Bush has already received more than $131,000,000 (US dollars) in campaign contributions, largely from "Big Business", or those who hold a decent amount of power in "Big Business". Bellow is a link to the candidate's campaign data:

http://www.opensecrets.org/presidential/index.asp

I absolutely enjoy the Bush campaign's "Kerry: Unprincipled" Ad. EVERY candidate for any significant office receives considerable sums of money from groups. $640,000 from "Lobbyists" is nothing. In fact, the figure is wrong, unless you're adding it up through his ENTIRE senatorial career. He only received $201,775 from lobbyists for hist 2002 Senate campaign:

http://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/indus.asp?CID=N00000245&cycle=2002

...Of course, Lawyers and lobbyists support the Democratic Party more, because the Democratic Party concentrates more on speech rights than the Republicans (just take a look at the USA PATRIOT Act, and you'll understand).

Still, $640,000 is pathetic, considering that he received a total of $13,536,981 in contributions for that campaign ALONE. Of course, most major corporations contribute several hundred thousand dollars apiece... For the 2000 election, Bush received $113,800 from the Enron Corp alone, and it was quite a ways from his top donor (the MBNA Corp. gave him $240,675, and $335,750 for this election, was #1 in 200, but only #4 this time). Of course, Microsoft is also a major contributor, and chose to support Bush with a $160,050 donation, though others in the company gave Dean $42,272.

As for lobbyists, I think George Will is pulling the "straw man" trick, which is claiming Kerry made a claim he didn't, so that Will could hack his argument to pieces. I also think that Will forgot what "Special" means. The Sierra Club is definitely NOT a "Special Interest". It is a General Interest Group, as they seek environmental improvement, which is good for all.

I need to go for the while, but I'll be back to post some more...

[edit]As for Kerry, I think he actually recognises that the campaign really doesn't matter, so he's saying anything to get Bush out of office. More on this later.[/edit]

If I remember correctly, California is one of the states that holds a presidential primary, even for the party of the incumbent candidate. I may be wrong, but I know some states DO always have primaries for both parties.

Speaking of such, who was up against Bush among the Republican Party?
