New keyboard...
2004-03-01, 10:46 AM #1
Yeah, so Ive got a new keyboard...

I used my old one for over 4 years. I typed the stuffing out of that thing. Ive had to replace several keys over hte years as Ive broken them, most of the keys have lost thier letters, and theres holes in several keys. I loved it. It had the *perfect* layout. Large enter key, large backspace key, etc.
This new one is virtually identical, save for a repositioning of the \ key. Now its right over the enter button. Every time I go to hit enter, I hit \ instead. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

So . . . post your keyboard horror stories...

I bought this

Its a good keyboard but you have to press a "F-Lock" key to give the F-Keys their proper functions back. Annoying.

Well... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/redface.gif]
I was really really frustrated and pissed off one day. So while playing some game (JO I believe) something triggered me. I rained blows down upon my keyboard with both my fists. It ended up in pieces. Heh...

So I bought a new one. Logitech wireless duo of some kind (they have so many duo's). It was the least 'tricked out' keyboard they have. Luckily it had almost an identical layout as my old one.

Ni, doesn't the F lock come on automatically? My wife has the same one (wireless) and it comes on automatically.

I hate the softtouch keyboards. I like the old mechanical style, so I can feel when I've pressed hard enough to make the key work. I find it decreases my error rate.

They're really hard to find with a decent layout (w/the double sized backspace & enter keys, but without the huge enter key that is like two units high).

I found them at pckeyboards.com

Only problem is I accidentally ordered the one without the "windows" key, so it sort of sucks for windows, since I got used to having it. Good thing I spend 99% of my time in linux [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

My keyboard is set up exactly like your old on GBK... You might want to look into it. It's wireless and incredibly cheap. $40 to be exact. It's the only good thing I've ever seen A4 Tech make...

Good thing indeed.

I want to buy a wireless keyboard, and combine the wireless aspect of it with my current keyboard. I want a wireless keyboard.. but I really REALLY don't want any of those internet keys.. And they don't sell the "hardcore" keyboards with wireless. :/

Maybe, but I like my keyboards to be versatile. I toss mine all over the place, I drag it down on the floor with me, I put it in my lap. With the internet keys, it becomes so much.. bigger. Bulkier. Not what I want.

I prefer the "Membrane" style keyboards to the "Mechanical" style of keyboards. They make less noise, and are more resistant to damage, allowing you to open them up and clean them more effectively (in the case of spills). Also, they're lighter, and often smaller. I don't care for the "enhanced" keyboards much...

As far as my worst experience with keyboards, I once went through 3 keyboards in 2 months. The first one came to the end of its lifespan naturally (I'd had it for 3 years of high use), and I replaced it with another of the same type. Unfortunately, a cat in my home knocked over a glass of water, and apparently it ruined the actual curcuit board (not the plastic membrane). I replaced that one with another, identical, one. However, it's PS/2 plug seems to be a bit short, and doesn't hold into the port all too well... At least the problem only arises when I move the case, and is easily remedied...

Is it a sun microsystems keyboard? We have those in the CS labs at RIT, and they have the exact same problem with the \ and Backspace keys. Its extremely annoying, especially after you spend 2 hours in the computer labs, and get used to it, and then start making the same mistakes when you go back to a normal keyboard.

I could put it in my lap with the mose on the arm of the chair (she has a big chair) and still surf.

What the hell is that weirdass thing?

I have a bent, ergonomic keyboard - other than the very slight S curve it's pretty normal, but... what the hell is that thing?

Ok, I get it, some people are willing to pay 800 dollars AND learn to type all over again just to do a lot of one-handed typing.

To each his own, I guess.

I don't like the double high enter key simply because on every keyboard that has it, they shrink the backspace key to one single key width. I use it so often that it really annoys me :P
