try simple map Ideas first. Something like a few rooms with hallways. Just see what you can do first then start to make maps that you want to release.

Start off with NOT getting into the habit of using the hollow tool....

Anyone who says not to use a tool at all should not be listened to. All the tools have their purpose. They dont just throw in useless things to trick new mappers. People who use them wrong brand them as uselsss. Like how everyone says CSG subtract is the devil. It is a very useful tool, if you use it right. When someone smacks their hand with a hammer, it's not the tools fault. it's the person who missed the nail :P Too many people miss the nail on CSG subtract, and the hollow tool. They both can be used to make things easier.

Yeah, CSG Subtract is kinda like a hammer with a rubber handle is all. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Agreed [EDIT: with Cazor. @#%&ing insta-post. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif] ]. I seem to have hit the nail on the head with clipping and hollow... my life is pretty much based around it. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

If people read on how to use it before making a 29 sided brush, subtracting it out of a primative sphere and ask why radiant crashes, well i guess that cant happen. There will always be stupid people. And they will let nice things get a bad name.

I have just gotten into doing some editing for JO, I have been doing some minor editing for JK with JED a while back and released one level that I doubt anyone played, But I liked it and i it was fun to make.

To get started in JO mapping, go to the following address after getting yourself an editor (I use JK2Radiant, since the raven one won't install properly on my machine, I've been told that JK2Radiant sucks, but since it's the only one i can use right now i'm forced to use it.

http://richdiesal.jedioutcastmaps.com/tutorials/index.html <- has lots of cool iformations about a beginers level, including domes, arches, chaulking, water lighting and other forms of architecture, a must have to be bookmarked for beginers (I just learned how to make a dome today! yay for me!)

anywho, thought I'd give you this info before they close and move to the JO/JA editing forum

It still gets you to the point where you can move brushes only a little bit so they would be just like a manually built room. It's faster that way.

I use quark. I actually prefer it over GTKRadiant.

Cazor, CSG substract is evil. The developers of GTK even say it's better not to use it.

Weeeelll...why is it still in there if it is such an evil tool? If it is as evil as it is touted, then all the mappers should be screaming at the programmers of GTKRadiant to delete CSG Subtract and perhaps replace it with something else. Yet CSG Subtract is still a tool.

I have no idea why it's still in there. Maybe because it's used in many tutorials or something, I don't know.

Maybe because many people still use it? Why is it evil? I use it and my maps turn out fine... except that I get bored and leave them. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]
