Sorry aboot the caps [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Well, the concept is over, but we can speculate all we want.

So, who do YOU (yes YOU in the pink hat and striped golf-shirt)think should of won the contest?

(speculations on gameplay, archi and general layout are welcome)

I think Gonk would have won if he'd saved Dustball for it [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Dustball was ineligible, though. I had started it prior even to the announcement of the contest, thus I couldn't enter it. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I'll admit to Reactor CTF, Duel Abyss, Duel Turbulent, Duel Dustball, and even the CCCP, but not Sky High! (my first, be kind!) Ok so maybe I will.

How did i know that this would happen? (ah well)

Anyway though, I was slightly disapointed with a few elements of "Tomb of Lords" (you know, besides the name [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]). The music just really didn't seem to fit. Yes, it was evil, but not "evil-music-to-fight-to". It was more "evil-music-to-sit-around-and-have-tea-and-crumpets-to". I also hated the over-intense lava (i mean, how in God's name would you be able to take that much heat from such a short distance?).

It did play at a nice framerate though (especially with this dinosour [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]).

MOVING ON. Does anybody have anything to add about Gonk's (and/or anybody else's) map?

...I don't think a little lava is going to bother a jedi.

rgoer's Docking Bay 7 was actually pretty good. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

True. My body didn't melt when i hit it [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

On another note, One of my favs for gameplay and concept was Thrawn42689's Altarius for its original idea (spinning arena of death), its fun gameplay and its use of the soundtrack to "The Rock". The only gripe i had about it was the mis-matched architecture, as i don't think that a temple/ruin-style area would be in this high-tech swirling mass.... then again, i could be wrong [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

I was going for a sort of "rock-tech" combination. I guess it didn't work too well. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

A.) Yeah the name sucks. I hate naming levels.

B.) I couldn't use KotOR music, and generally speaking, Star Wars doesn't have much in the way of evil fight music.

C.) The lava is there primarily because I enjoyed the light it cast from beneath. As for the heat... you seem to be forgetting that this is Star Wars... and seeing as there's wookiees and lightsabers and an all-powerful Force that binds the galaxy together... yeah I think that being slightly unrealistic isn't going to cause anyone to lose any sleep. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] And really, if you're gonna complain about realism, you should've picked out the damned bigass pillar that certainly could never be supported by those chains...

Oh and the lava is also a nice gameplay mechanic as it is fairly easy to discern lava = death.. if it were water, you'd be nitpicking about that. :P

Not that I mind anyone holding opinions. I just wanted to give perspective.

As for my personal faves I'd really have to go with rgoer's docking tower seven, and torchy's bounty citadel. Rgoer's...well.. amazing. That's about it. Torchy's I don't think gets enough credit. Sure its not oozing detail or anything like that but its definitely aesthetically pleasing, and the gameplay is quite nice. I think some people tend to blindly look for detaildetaildetail and thus can't see the forest for the trees, so to speak.

As a mapper (a hopefully improving one at that) with a seriosly slow-arse computer, i can agree with you there. The lava was the only thing that erked me due to it's intense brightness (though it seemed a lot worse in the screenshots than it did in the game). The chains were just there for asthetic purposes. maybe those massive platforms and the piller were just held up by the force or something [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

As for music, you could have gone outside of Star Wars for my own mapping project (which will hopefully have some pics in showcase by the end of the weekend) i'm taking a page out of Thrawn's book and outsourcing. My own map is rather... well... sithy, and i've decided to include a slightly modified version of the Zues Cannon Theme (from Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within). That entire soundtrack really had a Star Wars feel.

Finally, Torchy's map was seriously well done. it was fun to play on... although the bots seemed to have the intelect of a toilet seat (i can't play online for lack of loading speed), And rgoer's map was like Dustball in the way that it oozed detail... and made my video card ooze blood. I also had the issue where if you have force jump on level one and you fall into one of the wells (recesses underneath the support struts), your screwed.

Good contest though.

Seeing that you are somewhat a critical reviewer, I look foward to seeing your map.
