Okay, so I let my friend borrow my Trigun DVD's and he has them for about a month or two. He was always busy so as far as I know he only got around to veiwing them once. I get the DVD's back today. When I said return it in perfect condition, I didn't mean bent, scraped, worn out, hole/bump filled cover, without the plastic cover it came with, and scratched DVD's. Obviously he missed that part. Now I usually can trust this friend with my stuff. He has always returned my stuff in good condition. Well the DVD's are full of dust, scratches, and finger prints. The case looks like it went through World War II, it's worn out, bumps, scratches, the works. To top it off the plastic case is missing. I hate asking friends to replace things. I know it was an accident. He didn't even use the DVD's much. No clue how it happened... Like I said, I hate asking friends to replace things, but it cost me money, and now it's trashed. I'm sure the DVD's might be playable if I give them a good cleaning and all that. But the point is, it's all crapped up. I'm just pissed. I hate asking people for money...I mean it's my friend, should I have him replace it, or not?! I'm sure he didn't mean to trash my DVD's, but the fact is, they got trashed somehow. Maybe it was his mom, or dog or something. But they are trashed! What do I do?!?!

Just let it slide. Next time you borrow something from him, mess it up a little. My friend has had my copy of Pulp Fiction for like 3 months, and he still owes me like $150 that he borrowed from me - back in December! Sometimes, you just have to take the loss. It's the price of friendship. You can always key his car to send a message across.

Oh god, please do not follow this advice.

Just talk to him about it SAJN. If he acts like a dick and refuses to fix what he stuffed up, then hell with him as he's not a good friend. Don't be stupid and try and get him back, it's immature and no-one wins as in the end your DVD will still be screwed up.

SO just make belive that is all dust and scratches (Pretty much accurate :P) Dust, yeah I can get it off, finger prints yeah. Can I fix the scratches? with a DVD cleaning kit, maybe. Can I fix the case? no. Where the hell is my plastic cover? No clue. It isn't that it can't be fixed. It's just that, I'm uber friggin pissed that my DVD's and the case went to hell. And why would I destroy soemthing of his? What good will that do..other then no good.

This is exactly why I never loan stuff out that I really expect to get back. I loan my DVDs all the time, but not the original discs. Thank god for Divx copies... As long as I get the copies back (friends don't keep them) it's legal. The law allows me to make backup copies of stuff that I bought and paid for. What I do with the copies is my business.

Let your friend know that you're pissed about it, and if he offers to replace it or so sometrhing else to make up for it, fine. Otherwise, to hell with him.

Forgive him, but don't lend him anything else in the future.

Make him pay for them. If he doesn't, throw a rock through his window.

Screw that, throw a rock at his face. It's okay to get violent if you're right.

Shut up. I'm GOING to do this whether you like it or not.

I once lent a video game to a friend. I gave him everything including the box and all the manuals that came with it (thiw was back when games came with like 2 or 3 manuals). All I got back was the cd (in a different case) and the main manaul. I didn't demand that he pay for it, rather, I simply refused to let him borrow anything from me ever again.

I guess this is the risk you take when you borrow stuff out.

That seems like the wisest thing to do.
